The city of Beaumont near Edmonton will be the first city in western Canada to install 3D crosswalks, kind of a neat idea...

Trippy. And Beaumont is hardly a town...much less a city. lol
Potholes are much more effective and they are free!
Beaumont was officially incorporated as a city as of January 1, 2019.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Population of less than 12,000 when both Cochrane and Okotoks are about 30k and still "Towns".This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Beaumont can lick my taint. They have cameras that will give you a $400 ticket even if you DID come to a complete stop at a desolate, empty 4-way because "you didn't stop long enough".
They can stuff their Jambon Avec Fromage Subway 12" straight in their le pooper!
You obviously have some issues that should be dealt with. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Any how, Beaumont's population count in 2018 was 18,829 which means there are 5 other cities in Alberta that are smaller in population and 2 towns and 2 hamlets that are larger in population.

Sorry if you're a fan of traffic enforcement cameras that issue massive citations for "not coming to a complete stop" even though the driver literally came to a speed of 0.0km/hr.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I googled and clicked FictionPedia and at a glance it said about 11,000 in 2015 so I'm not sure who is right. Either way, the choice to call yourself a city is a choice granted after population exceeds 10,000. Obviously it was important to Beaumont Council to be called a CITY while other places don't care.

The the "rainbow" crosswalk in Calgary... I think this is just dumb. 3D sidewalks only work at certain angles and view points so 99% of the time they are just "art" on a road.
Also with our winters.. they won't last long.
I don't really see the point. If a driver can't pay enough attention to notice an actual living 3D object walking across the street, how will a fake 3D paintjob help?
I'm all for any modifications to crosswalks that produce measurable, provable safety improvements. There are people out there who research this crap.
How long before someone is driving along, notices this at the last moment, is freaked out and slams on the brakes causing an accident? I can't support this.

That visual effect is interesting. I remember when I signed up here it seemed folks were accusing all new users of being someone named "Gestalt". Apparently a rather unpopular fellow who had recently been banned or whatever. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If I recall something from either Psych or Art, the image shown is exploiting a Gestalt Principle to trick us into seeing it as 3D.
So, obviously, the OP is Gestalt! Mystery solved!
LoL!!!
Wouldn't that be hilarious! Looks like this OP has been here 10 years but impossibly managed to stay in the shadows while creating a hated alter ego.
Let me clarify with a JUST KIDDING in case of hurt feels.

speedog is Gestalt. Confirmed.
Pretty useless 6 months of the year in our climate.

And flashing lights at a crosswalk are about the most effective thing you can do. I wonder how much these 3d walks are in comparison to just slapping up some lights like every other city in the world is doing? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Number of rear-end accidents will probably increase 10 fold near that intersection.
In what way? If the first car slows down and stops because of different point on the road, how would that prevent the second car from stopping? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Paint these crosswalks in Richmond, BC. Grab popcorn and enjoy.
