transmission change

I've had my '81 Datsun 510 for a little under a year. I'm in love with the thing, but I can't help my curiosity get the better of me. If I were to change anything on it, it would be to get rid of that flingin' flangin' automatic transmission. Would anyone care to tell me how much money that might set me back??

Not sure but if parts are hard to find for that car, you can bet it'll cost a lot more than a doing a swap on a late-model vehicle.

depends if you do it in a shop or not, doing the work yourself would be quite cheaper. i've done an auto to manual swap on my own car (fwd though) and it really wasn't too bad, but there will probably more involved as your car is rwd.

off the top of my head...
-pedal assembally
-hydraulic lines (considering its a hydraulic clutch)
-posslibly tranny mount
-possibly shifter linkage/cutting room for different shifter
-shifter
-possible driveshaft
-clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate

i probably missed some things but that is the kind of work you are looking at.

finboy, how high of a bill might I expect for a change like this, as far as parts go? As an idea, what's a price range I can expect for a job like this? 1000, 2000, more? And beyond that what would a garage charge for the job? I'm afraid I would be a tab incompetent when it would come down to working on it.

One other thing, are there any changes that would have to be made to any computer compnents of the car? Are there any computer programs that run the 510?
