Reinforced the subframe/diff mount on this thing since they're prone to cracking. Dinan sells a "reinforcement kit" for 80USD that consists of a plate of aluminum and a bushing. I just ordered my own bushing and made my own plate.

Diff all dingle-danglin' out of the way.

Had my welder buddy weld in the "Dinan" reinforcement plate. Did a killer job, this position was about as difficult as they come.

Replaced diff and trans fluid with some good stuff while I was at it.

I had those M wheels on my 535 wagon. Heavy as fuck.

Yeah! My new wheel/tire setup is almost 10lbs lighter per corner.

Changed the mirror today. I don't like the oval M mirror and the auto dim is all fucked up anyway.

Also changed out my climate unit, this one has an LCD that works and un-smashed buttons. Amazing.

Took this thing apart a little last weekend and got acquainted with the lovely S62.

    Welfare phone pics incoming.

Plenum and trumpets off, valve covers off.

Disconnecting the vanos pistons from the cam gears.

    Units removed.

    Sitting on the healing bench.

This is what all the fuss was about; replacing the seals on the pistons sitting behind those triangle covers. I've already replaced the solenoid seals previously.

Putting the whole lump back together. I cleaned a bunch as I went. Also replaced the breather hoses since one of mine was collapsed.

    Good as new!

Cars like this become a lot more affordable when you don't have to pay someone labour.

Had my car on the dyno today. Put down respectable numbers for a 16 year old N/A car. Needs boost now.

    331whp/324ftlbs

In other news, I've also replaced all the lighting on this thing. Fog lights, side markers, tail lights, and headlight lenses. Thing looks waaay better. Soon as I get a little body work done and a polish I'll get a shoot done, my phone's welfare-ass camera doesn't do this car justice.

Yeah I raced a buddy's ISF that put down 360whp on Vex's dyno. I pulled a bumper in 2nd, then when I hit 3rd he pulled a fender and kept on pulling so we shut it down. Damn 8 speed auto.

Nice numbers. I'll always have a soft spot for the E39 M5 even if my wallet doesn't have a spot for it

Damn, look at that torque curve. That thing must be so easy to daily drive. Awesome numbers too, especially at our elevation. We need to tango!

Update! Car polished, coilovers installed and set to a nice functional height. I'm really liking the pre-facelift headlights, especially with brand new lenses. Looks a lot more serious and German. Besides, every car on the road has some kind of angel eye or LED strip these days.

Parked it under some bright ass lights to really bring out the sneaky blue lurking beneath.
