Despite the 'comfortable lead' they still ended up with less votes than the PCs people were shying away from (but went back when they saw the NDP take the lead in the final week+). Their seat count just highlights how over-represented rural voters are (*in polls) in provincial politics. The Wild Rose can't win without the cities, and the cities don't want a(n overtly) socially conservative party. The PCs were done two elections ago and managed to win a majority in one and get more votes in the other. It's a pretty clear message.
