Default New idiot application of policy by director at work means....(Rant)

That Internet access will now be monitored because even though your daily performance stats are significantly higher (in both amount of work put through and accuracy) than the corporate average, if you have time to use the internet you obviously have time to waste and will be disciplined.

However, those who sit at their desks and knit/read books/talk on the phone/email all day long can continue wasting time without consequences because well, you know, you wouldn't want to actually have uniform policies.....

So, too all of you who are sick of reading my usual brand of bullshit this will no doubt come as a welcomed little christmas gift. To the other 98.7% of you with a brain, don't worry - I'll still be here but just not as often....

What bugs me, is that in my case, i would probably catch grief for reading beyond during the day, but the 50 year olds who check globeinvestor and their daytrading accounts 200 times a day wouldn't hear a word.

I agree with that policy. However if you are going above and beyond your duties like it sounds, and still have time to surf the net, then mabe the company should recognize your abilities, and either promote you, or give you a raise, so when you do have spare time, you can use that by doing more work for the company, instead of for personal reasons, on the company dollar.

It all depends on your goals. Do you want to move up in the company? Or are you comfortable in the roll you are in now. If they don't compensate you for the extra work you are doing, and you have a good work ethic, then thats good reason to search for work elsewhere.

Luckily for me the company I work for is too big to go after individual offenders. They blocked facebook after they found out that it was sucking away like 30% of the productivity of the entire company, but sites like Beyond where maybe only a handful of the people in the company go don't cause a blip on the radar, even though I spend an inordinate amount of time here.

Sorry to hear about your luck.

If I were you i'd at least try setting up remote desktop to my home PC.. connect to it and browse from there. They are most likely just going to monitor your websites on port 80.

Yes, we are lucky in that sense. It does get annoying too, especially after yrs of doing the same thing....its nice to also be paid well enough to endure the boredom 95% of the time....

    I'm glad I'm the director here .

We monitor employee usage here too, but really, we only even look at it only when there's a problem employee.

    Is this lunch time?

12.5% of your day on the internet sounds pretty fair. I mean better than none.
