Bought this one when I was in Texas last. You should consider it as well.

Will do thanks. There's a chrome moly one on ebay for 180$. Even if it was steel it wouldn't break.
We're both gonna be a couple of terrors this season =)

I have a feeling they are going to be around like a rash soon. Im already noticing a trend switching to them. sr20s are getting hard to find for a reasonable price. I predict 1jz/1jz vvti being the next primary swap for s chassis owners.
It's probably long overdue - the 2jz showing in Calgary has been minimal at best for a long time. I'm not sure why they never really caught on here but hopefully that changes soon. Maybe people just need to be shown the light haha

The jz engines are pretty much bulletproof. The sr20det is a fantastic engine still, and i recommend it to anybody doing 350 hp or less. Anything over that, and its just not worth it to build an sr20. I mean, what do most BUILT sr20det make on a daily basis, about 400 whp. Well, a jz is just stretching its legs at that level of power. To build an sr just isnt worth it anymore. Hell, you could twin turbo a truck engine like Dario did in Toma's other thread, and still be ahead in the power game, even more so than the JZ.Originally posted by 962 kid

Somebody, bring me an ls swap, im itching to do one...
More to come soon, just ordered tensioner arm, cam gears, 1000cc injectors, another 340lph pump, and an awesome valve spring tool im gonna try out. S300 will be ordered closer to assembly time.
Stay tuned...
Booo, more people need to do non LS-v8 swaps. More 1uz and off the wall v8's plz! lolOriginally posted by sr20s14zenki

Unique swaps will never be trendy, simply because they are not easy for the average enthusiast to undertake. The type of person that decides to do an LS swap is (USUALLY) tired of screwing around trying to get 400bhp out of whatever their stock engine is, and wants the simplest, most well-documented swap available.Originally posted by gretz

For the most part, the people who have the talent to complete an original swap also have the ability to make big power out of whatever engine came with the car. That leaves a very small percentage of people who have both the ability and the motive to subject themselves to the headaches presented by undocumented engine swapping.
Non-V8 swaps will always be uncommon, for better or worse

I want to put a 20b into a 70's japanese sedan, don't care the make, and a toyota century v12 into something else... But both of those are total pipe dreams lol.
While I appreciate the capability of the 1/2JZ engines, I just can't get into em for some reason. Perhaps I was turned off from all the supra owners of 10 years ago...

The vg30et was a plenty venerable engine from what i hear. Once you get rid of all the archaic electronic controls, and get a real turbo on there, it should make some really nice power. Jason Lange was doing a pretty cool build on an old 300zx like yours, but i think he lost interest, and moved onto the supra. He had the engine fully built for that, and an autronic ecu as i remember.
I listed my reasons for choosing the 2jz pages and pages ago. The most prevalent reason being how insanely strong they are built from the factory. What other engine in existance can you almost quadruple the horsepower from factory, and have it live, for ANY extended useful period of time.
The other reasons just grew on me as a did the swap. No fighting with a steering arm to do a downpipe, removal of tranny is easy, tranny is beefier than the shit that normally mates up to sr20 (come on, everybody knows sr20 trannys suck ass). The engine just seems to belong in there. Last but not least, the SOUND, OMG the SOUND. Just fucking music to my ears. I actually pulled up to a gas station one day, and a guy said, "Such a nice day to drive around with the windows down, but then again i would drive with my windows down all the time if my car sounded as beautiful as that"
I do like that its a more rare swap, but in time, its not going to be so rare, and thats fine, because i love it.
In the end, i like to say im a true gear head, because i love all cars, and all swaps, mild to wild. I can appreciate the time, sweat, and tears that any person has thrown into their builds. I always say, to each their own, whatever makes you happy. Nothing is played out if you do it on your own, and its YOURS.
They're great, until you go around a corner, engine starves of oil and spins a bearingOriginally posted by sr20s14zenki

Haha you K farmed me
Can't wait to see what this thing puts down on the dyno, looks like a really cool build.
Good job Evan
Updates?
LOL waiting for my parts. I wont get my car into the garage for another month or so here, my driveway SUCKS and its full of snow. I basically need to wait for the thaw, and then figure out a way to winch it in, as the tranny blew up at the end of the season and it doesnt move (=. My driveway is very steep, which doesnt help matters with a low car.
Recieved my cam gears the other day, should have my fancy new valve tool from toyotools any day now. Tensioner bracket is on the way, and i have a new tensioner as well. Injectors are waiting, gonna stick with 6x1000cc, that should do me. Just recieved more parts for the dual pump hanger as well. They are pieces that allow me to remote mount the filter socks, which allows me to get the fuel suction much lower in the tank, without trying to hang the pumps all the way down there.
As for the turbo, i will order it closer to the time im going to tune. Im also trying to make my own quickspool valve at the moment. I have a flange that i cut on our plasma table from 5/8" steel, and i have a flapper made up. Just need to machine some brass sleeves and set up the shaft for movement. May finish that this week.
Clutch should be here any time now (rhys told me it would be a bit when i ordered). Now im worried it may not be enough. Jody has made me jealous and now i need to try and hit his power levels.....
Ill start snapping pics when i yank the engine and get it on the stand.
Oh, and if anybody needs shifter extension service, i can do that now. Made up a jig at work the other day (were a bit slow at the moment).
