I think the best way to buy a BMW or MB today, is to buy one 5-10 years old. Sure, you might have to give up car play, but they had lots of enjoyable cars from the recent past. What you don’t lose on depreciation you’ll spend on maintenance, but you can get a more engaging car than what’s on offer now, save for maybe the m2/m3.

Hard to disagree with this.

If you are desperate for CarPlay there are lots of aftermarket solutions that integrate well enough anyway.

Seems like DCT downshift lag is a big downer of the AMG Emira

I'm very familiar with this drivetrain. For street driving the transmission is fine. For track, I dont think it would be. It's got a very "first gen" feel to it. Still better than a slushbox.

IMO the best way to buy BMW’s or Mercedes these days is to buy one of the brands that buy their drivetrains and wrap them in something more compelling.

All my non-CarPlay cars now have CarPlay. Pretty easy to add these days.
