6 months a year sounds like plenty. Maybe do 7 weeks in Cabo to round things up and do the full North American tour.

From watching lots of Border Security, she will get busted and deported on the next flight back home.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Unless they are coming from Gaza or something

Have you tried producing a worldwide commodity priced in USD?

    That works pretty good to

While GVA and GTA are too expensive, cost of living in Calgary quite reasonable given the amenities. If you are earning USD and spending CAD, you just gave yourself a 30% raise.

IE Five Guys double cheese bacon burger is $13 CAD vs $15 USD in US.

Oh, is this the norm, now? This isn't some silly example that represents <1% of pricing between these countries, is it?

She'll need a work visa to stay here longer than 6 months and to legally work here. She could get away with just maintaining her residency in the US initially and "visiting" but at some point if she wants to stay here she'll have to pursue a PR path. At that point if she resides here she needs to file both Canadian and US taxes unfortunately. She'd pay Canadian income tax on the income and then her US tax filing should just be zero. US makes people file taxes even abroad full time unfortunately.

Income from US clients only means she doesn't have to pay GST but otherwise it's no different than having Canadian clients. Taxman looks at where you reside when you earn the income not necessarily where the income comes from. Also make sure she has a decent accountant as there's extra steps to track any currency losses via exchange rates

Being here less than 6 months under that digital nomad thingy seems like the smart move. If they maintain a residence in the USA, assuming it's not a shitty part of that country.

legal ability to work is a separate issue from taxation

Well, it's generally true to the US cities (or their suburbs) I want to live in.

I forget what thread, but he argued that gasoline prices were cheaper in USA (without converting to $CDN) and then absolutely lost his shit on either me and/or killramos about how stupid everyone is for thinking that matters. I am not sure if he's posted since.
At any rate, I firmly contend that the actual cost-benefit analysis of moving to a particular state is a fairly complex function of several variables, some of which are presented by biased parties. So... over-simplifying it is a hasty and sloppy generalization when virtually everyone couldn't even figure out what variables mattered during CoVid.

Yeah, Numbeo numbers are only spending side. But if you look at purchasing power, they are all better than Calgary. So as long as you make decent $USD for each city, it goes further than us making Canadian pesos spending it here.
