Summary: Snow and blowing snow for Southern Alberta tonight and Saturday.

Details: An intense low pressure system will develop over Southern Alberta this evening and move east into Southwestern Saskatchewan Saturday morning. As the low develops tonight snow will spread into Western Alberta. Areas along the foothills west of Edmonton including Grande Cache, Edson, Nordegg and Rocky Mountain House are expected to receive 10 cm of snow overnight with local amounts of 15 cm. Snowfall in these areas will taper off Saturday morning. As the low moves to the east overnight a cold front will surge through Southern Alberta. Behind the cold front strong northerly winds of 50 gusting 70 km/h combined with 5 to 10 cm of falling snow will result in poor visibilities. The worst conditions will be for areas of Southern Alberta southeast of Calgary including Lethbridge and Medicine Hat with visibilities near zero at times. This winter storm has the potential to produce poor travelling conditions. For many communities this will be the first significant snowfall of the season. As the Lee low begins to develop today strong westerly winds will remain over extreme Southwest Alberta this afternoon. Winds will gradually ease this evening as the low begins to move off the foothills.

Yessss. Calgary was blessed with 2 warm days to put on your Winter wheels before a big snowfall that was already predicted more than a week ago.

If you don't have your snow tires on by now and you were meaning to put them on, then that's your fault heh.

Warning has already been reduced, according to my EMS Weather Warning system at work here. Just some snowfall warnings for the south now. High winds are no more apparently.

Although It might be only for some areas... Stand by for pictures.

That's pretty normal actually. Calgary has already had snowfall... nothing significant, but it's still occurred.

That was one of those things I liked about Calgary winters, they tend to be dry... not a whole lot of snowfall, though the last couple winters have been the opposite.

Maybe I just lucked out and lived there during a non-snowy decade? lol...

Hopefully it holds off till after Nov. 22nd. We are moving that day and I have to drive my car over to the new place. Don't think the Z rated Pirelli's are that great in snow. Don't want to buy winter tires as I plan on parking it much earlier in the year for the winter in future years. Holding my breath.

It was the same last year too. I have pics I took mid november when I was walking around in a light coat, and the next day I have pics of my car covered in snow.

Just checked the dates on my photos, it looks like the first huge dumping of permanent snow was around Nov 22...

Does the snow/ice remedy the issues you were having with understeer and the unstable handling you were talking about in the 996?

Yup! Oversteer is a jab of the throttle away at any speed.

It wasn't unstable, more like unpredictable in the dry. In snow and ice, the lack of traction completely masked that lost feeling behind the wheel. I can hear the center diff transferring power in a pretty random fashion still, but to the driver, it feels fairly linear/smooth.

I'll post up an update on the blog fairly shortly.

I would take that cold over this shit on the West Coast right now. It's only -5 outside, but it seriously freezes you from the inside out. I haven't been able to shake the internal cold feeling for a few days now. Cold, moist climate = sucks ass.

This is EXACTLY what I tell people that think I'm crazy for preferring Calgary winters over Vancouver winters....it is way more fucking cold when you get WET with cold rain! Here in Calgary, you stay dry! Just layer up or wear a good coat and you're good, it's like it just blocks the cold out...

As for driving, I'm lucky to live and work inner city, I don't really have trouble until I get into some of the icy small streets, then I just drive slow...

You have pipes that are exposed to this cold?!?

And the simplest way would be to put that heated pipe wrap on them if they were exposed and energize it..

As for the Outlander, not worried. It's +2 in the garage. Exactly where it's supposed to be. Frostguard heater FTW.

You need to buy a more expensive thermometer

This is why you layer up.

I was pretty toasty with my wool coat today. Just had the essentials:

- Aviator Hat
- Scarf
- Sweater
- Long Johns
- Knit/Leather Layered Gloves (although it started to go through after a while. Will modify.)

^ worrd...I just bought my girlfriend a new down filled parka from MEC today cuz I was fed up with hearing her complain about the cold all the time lol, she never dresses properly...I went down to MEC and got their warmest parka, it was regular 270 on sale right now for 170! They have a lot of other stuff for sale too...their stuff might not be the most fashionable but it REALLY keeps you warm. Plus I can gaurentee you this parka is as warm if not warmer than those ridiculous 700 dollar Canada Goose coats.

I myself have been walking around downtown the past few days with a dress shirt, thin sweater, windbreaker on top, a thick sweater on top of that and then my North Face Gotham coat, the coldness felt like nothing and I was sweating by the time got to the office...if you think it's cold, it's simple, you're not dressed warm enough.
