Default Weird person wanting to buy my car. Scam??

I know those typical scammers selling cars for unreasonably cheap and making all kinds of excueses that they can't provide phone numbers.

But this is different because I am selling a car.
So I have this car for sale on Kijiji and got an offer through email.

He first made an offer just like any other people
"Hello, i am interested in buying your vehicle. Your AD states $3,900 But i can only afford to pay $3,700, please let me know if my offer is ok by you, thanks.

    Michael Brown. "

I said the offer is close enough so tell him to come take a look.

    Then things start looking suspicious.

"Thanks, i am a business man who buy vehicle's and send them oversea's for sale. I do that as a parttime outside my real job. Does the vehicle have an engine problem? If the engine is fine, then we can get started.

I would love to come take a look at it and test drive it but i am very busy this period as some of my vehicle's will be leaving for oversea soon, so we are busy preparing them for shipment. But what i will like to do at this time is:

I want to send you a cheque for the payment for the vehicle. After cashing the cheque, you will notify me, before coming to pick-up the vehicle. If this is ok by you, please let me know so that we can get started immediately. If you are fine with this method then provide me with:

    (1) The name you want the cheque to be on.
    (2) The address you want me to send it to.

If you can provide me with these details, the check will be send out to you immediately, then after it clears, i will come pick up the vehicle. I await your reply, thanks and have a nice day.

    Michael Brown."

I asked for the number just like how I test other scammers.
But he actually provides me the ontario number and he is in ontario.

I talked to him on the phone and everything sounds legit.

He wants me to let him know when check clears so he can arrange the pick up. Things look suspicious but I really don't know What the trick is.

This has got fraud written all over it, who would buy
a car they could not see or test drive? Ive had similar
encounters and I would tell this get to heck with him.

Yeah I usually ignore those kinda people. I rather sell my stuff to a real person than over the phone, except for eBay.

Don't touch his deal with a ten foot pole. Total scam. Who the fuck would want to buy a used car from Canada anyways?

I had one of those nigerian scammers try one on me and I recieved a cheque for a strange amount more than what I was asking. I called the bank to confirm the cheque and it turned out the cheque didn't exist. Sent it to them for fraud investigation and never heard about it again.

If I can't meet up with the person buying my stuff I don't sell to them. More so if it's a vehicle.

And if you take it to the bank and try to cash it there is a chance they will think you are scamming them and then your the one being charged. I got that from the fraud people when I called them.

One thing that is different is usually they send you a cheque for MORE than its worth and ask you to send back the difference.

Seems to be a different approach here. I say take it to the bank (issuing bank) and ask them if it is real.

Default sounds like a variant of the nigerian scam

Nigerian (and Ghanaian and Eastern European) scammers often use unwitting people in the states/canada to buy their goods for them using forged checks. Then the buyer turns around and either ships the item overseas or sells it for cash and wires it back to the scammers country. Usually the buyer is simply clueless that they are part of a scam and ends up being arrested quickly.

They usually offer more cash ontop of the asking price for "shipping charges". A friend of mine went along with it a few years ago, they sent him a fake check from the university of ontario, the funny part was they had the wrong university symbol/stamp
