Gallery of Fine Cars - Altima SE-R

I've read the forums on here and I see that the vast majority of you guys think that they're a pretty shady place. Please don't turn this into a Gallery bashing thread as they've treated me pretty well so far, but I would like honest opinions about the following:

I test drove an Altima SE-R with 120k kms on it at The Gallery yesterday and while it looks great (To an untrained eye at least) I noticed a high pitched sound coming from under the hood while driving, not clunking or anything, just a steady hum above the engine sound. When I asked the salesman what it was, he said that all Nissans had that noise: "Altimas, Maximas, Pathfinders you name it." I booked a pre-purchase inspection at Sunridge Nissan, as I wasn't 100% convinced, and would have booked even if I hadn't heard the noise as I don't know much about cars.

I test drove an 2006 Altima 3.5 SE at Brasso Nissan today, and definitely did not hear that noise coming from underneath the hood. The Brasso salesman told me that he could almost guarantee that the noise was from a blown synchromesh.

Should I even bother paying the $210 for a pre-purchase inspection?
If I chose to go through with it, what sort of things should I ask/tell the mechanic to do to make sure he'll catch faults with the power train?

Thanks for taking the time to read my long-winded post, and I'll appreciate any well-intentioned feedback, as this my first car purchase and I need all the help I can get.

OP you really shouldn't try to stop people from bashing these guys when they pull shit like this. Of course they are going to treat you well and be nice to you and tell you what you want to hear THEY WANT TO SELL YOU THE CAR! At least you were smart to book an inspection on the car but in my opinion don't waste your money go look at a different car.

Thanks for the input. When it comes to cars, I am definitely not the smartest, that's why I brought my troubles to you enlightened Beyond.ca folks.I guess I just really like the look/feel of the SE-R and didn't want to let go of the only one I could find in Calgary. Cheers guys.

i dunno, theyve had a really bad rap but for good reasons so normally i would say walk away too, but if its really the car you want and the only one you can find, i say take it to a Nissan dealer and get it inspected. youll be out a couple hundred bucks if it doesnt work out and if it does work out, work the price into the deal somehow.

Was at Canadian tire today what what do I see? A clean s4 only problem was the sticker on the back letting you know it's a shit box with rims or an A4 that's been kitted but that's not my point the guy just left the store after needing work done. I have pictureS to prove it

There are other SE-R's... I just bought one and not from the Gallery
& Yes they are awesome IMO (not gallery, but the SE-R)

Stay away from Gallery & wait for something to pop up via private sale.

If you need the financing, you'll get better rates from your bank (likely) than though a loans broakerage
