Default Great way to start my morning...

So driving in to work this morning on glenmore, everything is going ok until out of no where a boulder the size of a cantaloupe appears and i have no chance to get on the breaks or get to the other lane. I take the boulder right to the oil pan and blow the rock up, it wasn't the only thing that blew up. 3 seconds later the cel and oil light comes on followed by a light that literally says ''pull the **** over asap!"

Anyways i got to a safe area within 20-30 seconds and waited for a tow truck.

Took the car to George and he was able to get the pan off, new one installed and check over the area for any other damage that might have occurred. Big props to Tunedub for the help and to get my car done by the end of the day.

    Some pics for fun

    trail of oil

atleast i got to meet a cool Calgarian at work today!

Good thing the engine didn't starve from oil. Would have been a pricey fix on the R32. I love those little cars.

Engine would have been absolutely starved of oil. The oil light comes on at extremely low oil pressure, I think my Volvo is supposed to throw the oil pressure light at 7 psi which basically means you've already damaged your engine especially if you are driving and not at idle.

Hope you (OP) don't end up with too much damage. It looks like from the pictures you are still high enough to throw on a skid plate, I run one on mine and it's saved me many times (was pretty cheap and quick to install too). I'd look into getting one.

I've had a similar incident on deerfoot when I was younger except it was the gas tank that got gashed. Sucks when you are minding your own business and something like this happens because some fucking truck doesn't have their load properly secured.

On a VR6, a skidplate would rest right on the oil pan. Any pressure that would crack the oil pan without a plate would crack it with a plate too. Damn aluminium.

    Motor mount spacers ftw.

George is always awesome at urgent stuff. I had an axle go on the side of 22x, since I didn't want to wait a week to order one and do it myself I got towed to George's. 2 hours later he called to tell me it was done. I was expecting 2 days. for Tunedub yet again.

Not on mine. I have a Dieselgeek on my 2.8 and an Evo on my 3.2.

There is a definite gap between the skid plate and the oil pan on a MK4. I installed an oil pan heater on both and there is still room to spare.

How much lower does the 3.2 VR oil pan sit? because that is not true for the 24v 2.8 VR. I run the Evo skid plate, it sits no closer to the engine than the original plastic piece and is listed for all MK4 engines
