Wouldn't it be just easier to buy a crazy amount of stuff with 600 credit cards and make minimum payments, sell everything for cash, funnel money offshore, declare bankruptcy and move to a different country?

If your debt repayment is >25 years for anything, just make minimum payments forever.
    oh you know it

That’s essentially what my father in law did, up until he died. Credit card debt dies with the card holder.

Well, kind of. The banks have grounds to claim it from the estate though don't they? So, sure, if the deceased was otherwise penniless, the debt disappears. But if they had any other money, e.g., home equity, that would also go towards paying off the debt, IIRC.

I did some Marth. The bill is over $12k and at 19.99999% I think the interest would be over $200/month. So again - how the fuck would the minimum payment only be $10 and how can they say it would ever be paid off if the min payment isn't even coming cost to covering the interest??!

Because the minimum payment keeps getting bigger.

No interest first month. Next month will be interest plus $10.

    So you realize that?

No. I literally always just pay the entire bill, so I don't understand how this works. I've already paid this one as well, so I'm not going to find out from them.

Is that how it works? The minimum payment would change from month to month even if I quit any additional spending on this card??! Because this $10 shit sure doesn't make sense. I've had other huge bills where they will claim the min payment is like $400 though. So I don't understand.

Yea. You have to pay the interest on the loan plus the $10 minimum, interest month 1 is 0.

Your $400 minimum is your annual fee that is also part of the minimum.

Oh, that's weird and also stupid, but makes more sense.

Although those other times where the min payment was >$200 were definitely not due to annual fees. I can't recall if this card bounces around in what they claim their min payments are, but back when I used Visa almost exclusively, I'm certain that their minimum payments seemed to increase somewhat proportionate with the invoice amount.

Anybody know how to get the most cashback from Enmax bills? Last I checked they don’t count as a recurring bill. Is rogers the best bet for 1.5% back?

You can get 5x the points on fuel with the Amex Cobalt card if you go in and pre-pay using the 7-11 POS system, not the fuel provider POS system.

Have done this multiple times now. my local 7-11 is merchant coding as a quick eats merchant.

Anyone on the Aeroplan cards here?

With WJ dominating YYC, is there still value with, say the AMEX Aeroplan Reserve card vs. the Platinum card?

I understand one is credit vs. charge

Who do you fly with more frequently?

That should be the primary driver, as you'll reach reward tiers quicker, and capitalize on redemption opportunities.

Or go with a non airline specific card and have the ability to fly with whomever you want. Scotia amex gold and higher have high point multipliers for purchases, book whatever airline and use points against the airfare purchase.

Same can be said with most other banks, will have some form of a high point accruing travel cards, need to find the one that fits your spending habits and interests.

Fair enough. WestJet has been cheap enough that it's been the preferred airline.

That's been a price-driven decision though. Flying WJ to Tokyo was meh; food was blah, bulkhead seating and direct route were nice.

Haven't flown AC in a while and unsure if it's better or worth doing layovers for.

I did notice that the Maple Leaf Lounge perk is nice + Priority Pass vs. AMEX Global Lounge Collection (AKA Plaza Premium Lounge)

IMO this is the way to go. We have both AMEX Gold (5X restaurants/takeout, 3X gas, no forex) and BMO World Elite (5X travel, 3X recurring bills, 3X restaurants that don't accept amex) which combined gives us bonus points on majority of our CC charges, and both have favorable and flexible redemption on Travel related purchases. The lounge passes that comes w/ the BMO WE is a nice bonus, but I found them to be less and less useful. Shitty lounges if you can even find one ( No Dragon Pass lounges in the last 4 airports I traveled through).

We also have the WJ World Elite because the First Checked Bag perk alone is worth getting the card IMO if the family travel with WJ at least once a year. The free on board wifi through Boingo and the companion pass/lounge passes also a nice bonus.

My personal opinion is the WJ credit card is mediocre from a rewards standpoint. And its only real benefit is the airline perks.

BUT something to consider with that is that a lot of the airline perks are duplicated by their frequent flyer program. So if you fly WestJet a ton, enough to accumulate status, it erodes the value prop to the point where I think it’s better to have a more general rewards program ( AMEX, Avion, Insert other bank here ) to maintain international flexibility in booking different airlines and maintain the WJ perks by flying them enough to have status.

The issue with Amex, Avion, insert other bank here, etc is if you book through their program and an issue comes up with the flight it's a pain dealing with them instead of direct. I'm sure with Amex Plat it's easy enough but some of the others just suck.
