I am finding chrome remote desktop does not refresh as nicely. Lot more lag. Also finding it a bit of a pain because of the multiple monitors at home. No option to shrink it to one without changing display settings, then changing them back when I get home. Granted it does support 2 monitors, but with the lag, one is better but not quite as good as I remember logmein to be.

I am avoiding logging into logmein until I have to to stretch out when that 7 day timer starts.

Going to play with team viewer and crossloop today to see how they are.

TeamViewer is really good and idiot proof on the remote end. But if you use it too much you will get flagged for commercial use. A license is quite expensive.

Not if you change your client MAC address

If TW reduced their prices down to something reasonable (eg 200$ vs 600$) I would buy it in a second. I use it 2-3x a day at least. Too lazy to bother with RDP for all my headless home machines.

One big negative on Chrome Remote Desktop - a Google account has to be logged in on the remote machine. Will test out TightVNC today and tomorrow - sounds promising as a replacement.

If you're going the vnc route then ultravnc is by far the best. As far as I know it's the only one that doesn't have a huge list of issues on win vista/7. It also has some nice features like file transfer built-in.

I've found vnc to be really problematic though. It's much slower than rdp and wouldn't work for me on 1 out of 4 systems. I didn't bother to investigate why, so possibly it was something simple.

One thing that is nice is the ability to start an outgoing connection from the remote end. Ultravnc has a single click packaging tool online but its pretty easy to achieve the same thing with your own scripts.

TightVNC up and running, it was a fairly easy process aside from configuring some port forwarding on my router at the remote end - on first use it seems quite responsive. Running XP Pro on remote end, Win7 on local end.

What I find really odd is that OSX has an RDP client program built in.
Did M$ force them some how? or do they realize thier clients need to connect to real computers.

No, it's easier to fix a PC from a Mac since there's only one sh*t box to worry about.

So TightVNC - wow, really fast or at least when compared to LogMeIn. Only issue I see is security because of port forwarding on the router but very strong password/phrases should help.
