haha i saw those. not my style. I found something from rotiform I'm going to get.
and yeah it's a 6spd for all those who keep saying stay away from the automatic. I hate slush boxes.
But yeah I have a feeling I wouldn't need to go to a shop to get my turbos done. I have enough capable friends to help me with that, including the one selling me the car. Should have everything worked out by march.
I am looking forward to having my first "fast...ish" sedan haha. First sedan since I had my 87 accord.
It's in great shape looking forward to posting it in the Latest purchase thread.
thanks for all the spot on advice gents!!!

8 years of ownership. Drove less than 80k kms (150k on the odo). Almost $5g in engine repairs alone, and I did a lot of the work myself.
- 2x a/c compressors
- alternator
- torque converter failure rate of 100% (on allroads anyways)
- leaking fuel injectors (even with new seals)
- camshaft leaks (replaced twice)
- main front seal leaks
- oil pan cracked (didnt hit anything, cracked on its own)
- turbo inlet oil seals
The last one was the final straw for me. To get to the turbos, you have to remove the entire engine. Hell to do damn near anything on the engine you have to remove the front clip.
My dad had an A6 2.7TT and he absolutely hated the thing, it honestly seemed like the car spent more time at the shop than it did on the road, some of the major issues I remember off the top of my head:
Camshaft Angle Sensor
Leaking Turbo Seals
ECU
Interesting how there seems to be two completely separate camps when it comes to these cars. The one that's had zero problems and the cars have been great, or the ones who have had nothing but problems.
Perhaps it comes down to maintenance, and how the car's been treated over its lifetime, i'd imagine?
If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

Lots of guys thrash these motors, mod them (because i's so easy and the gains are huge), don't take care of them, don't turbo time them, etc. etc. Those cars will not last like the meticulously maintained ones, and that goes for pretty well any complicated car, not just the 2.7T's.
Especially with the case of the S4, it soon became a steal of a deal on the used market, all kinds of young people could afford them (just to name one demographic), and many beat the hell out of them. There are a ton of 2-4 owner S4's out there that I wouldn't want to own, but a well maintained 1-2 owner vehicle and I wouldn't even think twice if I were in the market.
When I sold my B5 S4 it was mint and I got around $16K for it, it had 307HP/366TQ + whatever an exhaust added (3hp? haha), and Vogtlands coilovers. Young kid and his dad came and bought it for the kid. One hell of a car for a teenager, when most people that age are driving econo boxes for the same price.

I didn't say you didn't, nor did I say it was impossible for well maintained cars to have issuesOriginally posted by Tik-Tok

I definitely believe the bagged cars had a way higher rate of failure though, and the S4 2.7T in particular was commonly abused, especially after it became so attainable for almost anyone when it hit the ~$20-25K range. When I was shopping I saw some god awful samples, and many more whose owners didn't even know what a turbo timer was or what oil the car needed.
