Cant believe this shit works. My employee fell for a Nigerian scam

I have an elderly employee who believes she is "in love" with some dude from Zimbabwee. Apparently they have been in contact via skype only since last fall.

My employees finally told me about it because she is now approaching them the borrow money to send to him.

Story goes he is a well to do business man but gets stuck at the airport and cant access his accounts. Send money. My kid needs surgery and I cant afford it all. Send money. I need a taxi ride to get to my meeting. Send money.

Its painfully obvious this guy is scamming her but i guess shes lonely and refuses to listen to reason. Her husband past away a couple of years ago.

Now shes asking my controller for advances on her pay which I have forbidden.

Anyone dealt with a family member or friend who has been manipulated by something like this? My guess is she has sent thousands and I can guarantee you, this is crippling her financially.

She's blinded by love, hopefully she hasn't been too brainwashed by this guy. My question to her would be how they actually met? Maybe find a close friend of hers and explain to them what's going on so they can confront her.

Those scams can be pretty crazy. Had a friend that desperately needed money during school. So he wanted to sell his phone
.. He ended up getting into on of these scams. None of us knew until he asked another one of my friends to borrow money. I forget if he ended up loaning him money or if he was super close to doing it.

Anyways when me and another friend heard about it we put an end to it... He ended up losing his phone and a good chunk of money.

The worst part is he was originally from there... Should have known better.

LOL what is the leather coat scam? Sorry your dad fell subject to it, but I'm LOLing because a former coworker definitely fell for it. I hadn't heard it was a scam until you just mentioned it. He just came back from lunch with like 4 or 5 leather jackets and said some Italian guy sold them to him outside the bank...

I had a friend (not so bright) fall for the '$5000 stereo for $500' out of a WHITE CUBE VAN.

I laughed loooong and hard when he told me. He started with "I got a sick deal on a stereo!" and then I asked if he got it for 90% out of the back of a white van.

Just ask to see his original e-mail. Google it, and it's probably a template. Ask her to think critically as to why that is...

Had Cousin fall for this. She meet him on a missions trip and proceeded to marry him on a second visit. Skipping details, the guy disappeared after 30k and half a citizenship application.

Tell your coworker you'll give her 5k is she visits the guy. 99% chance he will disappear when she wants to meet.

Catfish scam, your employee will need to seek out professional advice, forced if needed. Dr. Phil has kind of taken this as his own personal task. Real hot place in hell for these pricks, I'd not swerve if it was possible to clip one with my car. My mom watches the show, told me about it. I'll admit to watching one of the episodes.:

Reminds me of a time my dad mentioned to me where he was filling up at a gas station and a couple asked him for some directions then they tried to sell him a gold necklace lol..

A brother of his co-worker actually bought a gold necklace from them and surprise, it turned out to be fake.
