    Question Brakes & Rotors?

So the Golf needs new pads and rotors and the only ones I know are Brembo and StopTech. Are they still recommended or does Beyond have a trusted brand that they go to from personal experience?

I read up on some called 'Adam's Rotors'(?) but they're not good according to VWVortex.

What is your driving style? AutoX or any forms of racing needs?

Last time I did brakes I went with plain face Stop Tech rotors (painted for rust) and Hawks HPS pads. Excellent combination and funny enough Tirerack.com had the best prices. This was for a sporty Integra.

If you are doing the work ensure you grease the slide pins really well and inspect all your lines. And dont forget fresh brake fluid.

Always ran Brembo blanks on my vehicles with no issue. Great performance, better than OEM, nocticable performance, and nothing too crazy for daily/spirited driving. I stick with OEM pads if I'm driving a Honda though.

Also if you are curious about the different compounds for brake pads this chart is super helpful. Honesty for a street car Hawks HPS or HP+ is all you need.

No racing applications in the near future. Just good braking distance.

Hawk pads are pretty good. Just remembered that as those were the ones we bought for the Volvo school bus and little dust came out of them. Or the shade was not as noticeable.

What are the slots for in rotors? Cooling?

I used Centric blank rotors and Akebono pads last time I did brakes. Very little dust from what I can tell. Get rotors with the painted hats though.

IIRC StopTech is the high performance line of Centric parts.

OEM Rotors and Project Mu pads are what I have and am currently running on Hollie Don. They stop great, no squeal, and resist fading very well...that said they do dust up like nobody's business and that is kind of annoying especially on my yellow wheels...but I can overlook that for the performance I get from them.

I should also add I am running the B Spec pad, they do offer different formulations.

But for the needs you listed, I would probably run an OEM or Brembo blank rotor, with an OEM or Hawk HPS pad.

Who carries Project Mu pads? Someone else recommended them as well.

I'm leaning towards OEM rotors/Hawk HPS or Project Mu pads.

Thanks for all the recommendations, folks. I should mention that I'm upping the power next year (cross fingers) but I don't think I'll need a BBK.

Sounds like you've already moved on, but I wouldn't get Adam's rotors. I got in a debate with the owner one time, he seemed convinced that the holes in drilled rotors were primarily for cooling (when in reality, they're more to let gases escape away from the hot pad/rotor). That was enough to convince me his rotors are designed with not much more than aesthetics in mind.

Not a big fan of HPS' myself... I prefer HP+ or Ferodos. I had Ferodo DS2500 in my S2K (also the Formula Car) and they had great bite even when cold. Dust didnt seem to be too bad from what I remember (you could always ask INITIALD since he has the car now and it's still on those pads).

Brembo blanks are great for rotors... I also seem to remember Zimmermans being what the OEM ones were for Early 2000 VW's.... (been a while might be wrong).

If you're not pushing the brakes too hard, then just go with some regular rotors and stock pads. In street driving, your tires will be the limiting factor in braking distances so there's no need to get into high temperature racing pads. There are trade-offs in going to racier pads like more dust, more noise, shorter rotor life, and cost. Don't go for it unless you need to.

Slotted and drilled rotors are only good for shortening rotor life IMHO. Go with blanks and use high temp BBQ paint on the hat to keep it from rusting. Slots and holes look cool though.

    TL;DR:
    Get zimmerman rotors

    and some pbr pads

I have Hawk HP+ on the S2K and I've had people scream at me to "fix my fucking brakes" lol.

Adam's Rotors are garbage - Ordered a set; requested for blanks and he refused to do them unless I got them slotted as its not there business model to do blanks. I agreed warped within 10 months.

Service sucks as well. Never would I recommend Adam's Rotors.

Worked on V.W for 20 plus years and for aftermarket get Zimmerman rotors and TRW pads.\
I probable still have some in stock. Front or Rear. My shop was flooded out and still have left over inventory.
