He's thinking about bringing it down to the USA with an enclosed trailer, selling the enclosed trailer and the Camaro, and then picking up a used fire-sale ZL1 or Z06 corvette up here when spring rolls around
Really, I'm just jealous
BMO capital markets predicting if oil stays in or below $30 for any extended amount of time, CAD will go to low 60 cents.
BOLD PREDICTON: US presidential election will be the first dominoe to fall which sends their markets into a tumble and weaken their dollar.
If that play works, that'll be awesome haha love it!Originally posted by HiTempguy1

I say stupid shit all the time.
The deals Americans are getting up here are insane. Lots of stuff has been slow to correct to the dollar, and is still similarly priced as in the USA.
This is a first for me. Im getting destroyed on my imports.

The only tool we have in the box to combat the dollar is hiking rates. Which we can't do because of our collective housing/mortgage balance sheets.
Because of our stupidity in the housing market, we can't raise rates, making ourselves more "poor"....check the price of produce and such.
The market always wins.
We don't have to raise rates. The US can do it for us.
If the US raises rates it will lower the CAD.Originally posted by Feruk

- US raises, Canada flat --> bad for loonie
- US flat, Canada lowers --> bad for loonie
- US raises, Canada lowers --> really bad for loonie
It is not all bad having a low dollar. It may screw up some but it definitely brings some production jobs back north. It helps our retailers with less cross border shopping. It draws in tons more tourism dollars. It increases many areas and businesses in Canada that were sufferring under a high dollar.
Being someone who has run businesses under both high dollar and low cycles, I have always done better with a lower dollar in general.
I feel you. I am paying for supplies on a contract we picked up a few months ago and getting it right in the pooper.Originally posted by cycosis

For the normal consumer low dollar sucks. If I need to do any cross border shopping it just won't happen. It might be good for Americans but not us.Originally posted by tirebob

My neighbor who usually travels to San Francisco in the winter stayed home this year because the dollar was that bad. He was going to put the down payment on his RV pad which was normally like $1200 US but was going to be like $1800 or more CAD... Just couldn't do it so he stayed home this year.
It affects us a lot more than people care to think.
This myth is largely being exploded during the current devaluation.Originally posted by tirebob

The manufacturing sector is much more leveraged to commodities than it ever has been. We are just now starting realize the scale of the oilpatch related manufacturing in Ontario, for instance.
Normally a declining dollar would see a predictable bump in exports. This isn't happening.
The whole mess is going from bad to worse.
