Running starlink internet but I want to bypass their modem/router.

Because of installation of the starlink dish, I think I want to use a ceiling mounted router would be best.

This is completely out of my knowledge base as I typically have used the Telus supplied gear in the past and it served my needs fine.

House is a bungalow - suggestions?

I don't know enough about the starlink stuff to give advice, but I assume since it's a disk, you need to use their modem. You might be able to get a bridged mode?

if you are going with the standard starlink dish, you will need to order the additional ethernet adapter (50$ iirc), not sure how it is on the consumer side but you first activate starlink through the included wifi router and mobile app, then there I recall seeing a slider to enable passthrough.

I know you can bypass the starlink router, that's not an issue. Mostly looking for a good recommendation for a ceiling mounted router.

My asus router failed a firmware upgrade, and it has been giving me grief ever since. Today it decided to kill the wifi and only work for hard connections. tried manual updates and hard resets, still cant get it to do anything. Any ideas? Or should I wait until tomorrow and replace it?

    What should I get?

    Thanks and Happy New Year.

Check and see if there is a 3rd party firmware like dd or tomato or another variant.

Yeah I'd try dd-wrt or if not see if you can roll back the router and install a prior firmware on it instead.

Been trying but I can't seem to get it to roll back to factory or to accept any other firmware after one failed. Trying the firmware restoration tool for a second time now. Last thing I can find through their support.

Managed to get the merlin firmware in place, but now the router won't connect to the internet. Wireless networks still not available. Fml

When I try to enable WPS, it says I need to enable wifi, and when I hit go, it brings me to the enable radio switch

But my radios are currently enabled.

both my networks say they are on channel 0

I think I need to get off Channel 0, but when I go to select channel, only Auto is available.

Couple forum posts are saying it is likely a hardware failure...

Wifi 7 is here, and most of my clients aren't even wifi 6.

Eh its diminishing returns. The Features in 7 are not enough to warrant an upgrade.
802.11ax is fine for most homes and offices.

A Theoretical maximum of 46 Gbit/s is pretty dope though. Might be enough to sustain a 1G connection at home.

Considering UniFi completely skipped WiFi 6E in their U6 products, you’d have to go WiFi 7 (U7) to get 6ghz support.

Price for U7 Pro is actually reasonable.

1st wifi 6 device I got fucked with my wifi 5 router so I got a new AP until Intel fixed their drivers on the laptop. To me wifi only has to work, I don't really care about performance gains on it.

Does anyone have any experience with power line adapters?
I'm possibly moving in to a new place that has, if I'm lucky, 1 cat5e cable run. I was thinking of taking my Unifi stuff and setting up 2 ap's in the house then using a power line adapter in the office.

You can sometimes snake a Cat5 cable either down to the basement or up to the attic to get it to the other end of the house. Or I've seen popel go through an exterior wall and run the around the house under the soffit. Lot of options if you want to get creative.

Unless it's a rental. then Powerline is an option. Or mesh with dedicated backhaul channel may be just as good?

I think the power line adapter is kindof a last ditch attempt. Maybe even below wireless back haul.

MOCA would be better and actually works pretty damn well.

Honestly with the Unifi stuff using powerline is not worth it. Their wireless APs work soooo much better than consumer level shit.
