The price gouging was a myth,
Anyone bitching about Air Canada price gouging must think that all price fares are set manually, with pen and paper...it's all computer based, supply and demand, last minute changes etc etc. Fort Mac conditions changed so quick people weren't able to get to their homes to get anything out...
Anyways, say this on youtube, very touching song written by some musician about this fire.
Former Alberta NDP candidate suspended by employer after calling Fort McMurray fire ‘karmic’http://globalnews.ca/news/2681326/fo...y-fire-karmic/He also used the hashtag #FeelTheBern in the post.
True colors.

I tend to agree. Some of the comments are coming from complete pieces of human garbage but I'm worried where this trend will end up.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

I understand opening your mouth has consequences, I think however the debate over what those reasonable consequences should be is a complicated one given our desire to allow and encourage a society of free speech.

I would suggest that those in a high profile position should - esp if they are in public service like politicians.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

Opinions are one thing, but common sense should be mandatory (ie what not to say, when).

Let's start on ludicrous political entitlements.
One gets a job based on opinion, it goes the other way in an almost karmic manner. We've all held jobs with some bigmouth lunatic two desks over, any opportunity to fire his ass is a welcomed day in my book.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

Just wondering , any one know if the military has showed up yet and how many people deployed ? We had 2700 deployed during 2013 almost within 2 days
All I can dig up is a few helis (which are grounded in Edmonton due to clutter in air space from planes supplied by albertans and bc'ers ) and 1x Hercules plane (second on stand by )
Do we have any actual ground support yet ?

Last info I saw was that only planes were asked for, not ground support.

It's fine. Your employer gets to decide if they pay/employ you or not.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

No one would deny you the "right" from a legal perspective to speak your mind....but that does not give you the right to avoid the consequences of your speech. (With the exception of the government implementing those consequences.)
Edit: it says he was an a gov't employee. That's a bit of a different situation.

Think i read on third hand on Reddit from someone who seemed to know what was going on that until the fire burns it's self out there isn't a lot of use to move more bodies into the area beyond the fire fighters already protecting key spots.Originally posted by 403Gemini

Premier stated the fire might reach sask. That is just nuts.

Rumour is that we'll be getting some help from the army on construction of the fire breaks around the site. No ETA though.Originally posted by dubhead

Most of the land is pretty stripped, but there are some areas of regrowth that we're taking care of as well as some stands of trees that lead to critical infrastructure.
The Ex: 2002 Subaru 2.5RSTi w/ JDM V7 STI Swap, JDM 6-Speed Trans, Dom 1.5XTR, ST Coilovers
The Ride: 2014 Ducati Multistrada S, Tuneboy w/ CC
Daily: Boring Volvo.
I'm glad the Fort Mac fire is happening in the province most responsible for the climate change that caused the fire in the first place
And then there's this gem:
Makes me wonder what it's like to be a hypocrite, ignorant to the real world, whilst rubbing oneself with incense and peppermints. We don't need oil, we need clean air, water and land.... not oil, to live.

I was thinking the same thing. If someone was a forward-facing representative of a company that such conduct would have far more implications to the company than someone else. But then by that notion a clerk at McDonalds would be subject to such discipline.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

The companies are in a difficult position. They likely don't agree with the statements made, which in turn means they are not on the same mental page as the employee. They also want to show the public that they disagree with such statements, so they need to make a statement of their own. I get all that.
But we live in a country of free speech. People make off-colour comments all the time in regards to a variety of things. That's our right, living in a free country. I imagine that someone who is penalized for enacting that right has a good case to be made to the labour board. In the end, I believe our rights trump a company's desire to not receive negative public opinion.
No we don't.Originally posted by Kloubek

Let's get to the extreme of the logic.
If I publicly state that raping kids is ok, what happens?
If I publicly state that my PRIVATE business only hires Australians, what happens?
