So Britain has exited for a few days now.

Has it sunk into the sea yet?
Well they haven't really exited yet, they've moved into the Transition Period. This is the time where the UK and EU and others can negotiate new future and new deals. So for the rest of the year (or a year or two beyond that if they agree to extend the Transition Period), it's business as usual. UK is still a part of the single market and customs union, labour movement is the same, UK still contributes to the EU budget (just doesn't have a seat at any EU office anymore), and the UK is sill bound to EU law they were before entering the transition period.

We won't really know if they're sinking into the sea until Jan 1, 2021 (provided there isn't an extension).

And even then it will be hard to predict some of the outcomes of what gets agreed to

To be fair, the UK might somehow negotiate a better deal than what they had in the EU. Given the size of the EU vs the UK and the fact that most of the EU rules were negotiated when the UK was more prominent, I can't imagine how they will pull that off, but hey, positive thinking

Nothing has changed. Next stage is Jan 1, 2021.

Boris got 11 months to negotiate a deal.

But BMW has stated that a tariff of up to 5% will keep Mini plant in UK, over 5% and Mini will exit UK exclusively built in Holland. But the billions in retrofit for the next Mini will be postpone indefinitely until a deal has been reached.

Honda and suppliers to Honda already left.

Then there's Nissan on the other hand will exit Spain and France and double down on UK if hard brexit does come in a year.

Toyota is like BMW will wait and see.

Uk doesn't make sense as an automotive manufacturing location anyway. Let em leave.

That's kind of like saying that Detroit and area doesn't make sense either. Maybe you mean from a geographic standpoint but the capability and knowledge are quite high in auto manufacturing in the UK.

I’m just trying to figure out when the apocolypse starts. Didn’t happen a year ago when they left, so will it happen tonight?

    Or did Brexit cause covid?

I wouldn't say that Brexit didn't cause covid.

We don't have enough data to make a conclusion either way.

    About bloody time we left.

The UK may not make sense for auto manufacturing. Then again neither does Calgary being a tech hub (until that is the educational institutions in Calgary catch up and become more aligned).

Well. Technically if you want to push a Brexit agenda, the catastrophe that would be aligned with it would be a plague of some sort.

Earthquake, nope. Asteroid hit, nope. Nuke, not even. It would be a hell of a reason for someone to intentionally release one though. Europeans in the last century did absolutely shit stuff to other Europeans - so... its not impossible I guess.

Is 2021 the year that brexit actually happens? Or will there be more delay, confusion, renegotiation etc.

Maybe I need to read BBC today. I thought there were many items unresolved. Headlines indicate I was wrong.
