    Default The Night Of

I was surprised to not find a thread on this already. Probably one of the best tv shows I've seen in awhile imo. Just hooked on it and it's a mini-series, so one season, 8 episodes and it's at episode 7 already .

From the cinematography and storyline to the suspense of it all, they build up the characters and the whole plot so much and you're left on the edge of your seat like GoT style, always running through your mind about who did it, wtf happened, right from the first episode.

Trailers do not do the show justice:

I've been watching it. Good show.
Not sure how they're going to wrap it all up with one episode left.

I have been watching since I stumbled across the first episode.
Has that True Detective vibe kind of.
I have enjoyed it as well. Not sure how they are going to wrap it all up with one episode left.

    What are your theories???

Then it was supposed to Deniro to replace him, but I really think Turturro has a done a great job getting into the role coming from his other usual ones. I also just noticed the actor who plays Nas is the sidekick guy from Nightcrawler.

Just in case anyone wants to start with clean conscience while watching:

    Spoiler:
After the revelations of episode 7, I don't think that Dwayne or the hearse driver did it, as matching to the suspect profile as they are. I feel like at its simplest conclusion it would lead to the gold digging stepfather. Just because he's had assault charges, wanted that house and Andrea said 'I can't be alone tonight', but even then them showing how Nas is going downhill compared to what we usually know about him, it's so up in the air still imo just so good the way they leave you constantly questioning every aspect. I'm sure we'll be blown away with the finale, hopefully.

Also what was the correlation, where it showed Nas's little brother with the red spray paint on the lockers then later he's walking with his father and there's the racist graffiti on the wall in the same dark red paint...

I think Turturro is great in that role as a bumbling and awkward lawyer. DeNiro and Gandolfini would've looked too cocky with their mafia kingpin typecasting.

    My theory...

    Spoiler:
The stepfather as a suspect is too easy as we see these motives all the time and wouldn't make for an epic conclusion. The other suspects like Duane Read and hearse driver are probably red herring.

My guess is probably the stepdad's financial advisor guy because he's sick of his shit and wants to pin it on him.

Good for the audience but in reality, Nas is still not better off even if the case was dropped, drug addict, strained relationship with his doubting mom, his family is forced to move now, friends and community are weary of him.

    Chandra's career is completely ruined.

The cat though! =) I never realized it til I read a post on reddit about it. The cat seemed to symbolize Stone's hope or hope for Nas, giving it away, getting it back from the pound. Also in the first scene when Nas's father goes outside to get in his cab the day after there's a cat that crosses the street in place of the missing cab.

I thought the moment Box gets up and leaves from the court when Helen says 'we have no other suspects' was a powerful moment, causing her to stumble and have to restart. Just as detrimental to Chandra when Nas's mom got up and left.

In the end, 1.5 hrs for a finale, it was like a movie, awesome show, I can't see them pursuing another season but at least they left us with the notion they will go after the financial advisor guy, even with even less evidence.

One of the best shows I've ever watched personally.
