Is this worse than the 80's?
People who have been through the 80's say this is worse by a significant margin.

My company isn't a producer, some of our business services the patch but it's not a huge part of our business. Still, there's a trickle of layoffs over the last week. We'll see what happens. I just got promoted so......

This is Albertas end game and the party that created this mess is in the lead in the polls. Never change Alberta.

Are you implying that the libs or NDP are the ones to get us back on track? Because looking at alberta's 40 year history doesn't matter; it's about what the current gov't has done to help (read: nothing), and their capacity/willingness to change things going forward.
You'd have to be delusional to think that our current provincial and federal govt's are doing everything they can to try and get us there. Giving them more time (i.e. re-electing them) won't help anything when their core principles are completely misaligned with success of the Alberta economy.
I'm going to hold back supporting any party until the agendas are out. The only party that has really signaled anything about their platform is the UCP and it's all about cutting taxes and cutting spending. The first part would be great, if we had some sort of cushion but we don't. I can't see how you can cut taxes with revenue being where it is right now. Cutting spending is not ideal during a recession but yeah, again we don't have a choice. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If Notley abandoned NDP party lines like she has recently then I'll be inclined to hear her out.
No idea what the Liberals will trot out and I'm assuming the Alberta Party won't have enough candidates again?
We'll see.

Only some departments in companies have freezes.
Husky in Lloyd has postings all the time!
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

Just wait until interest rates go up, AB will be full of them. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Why do people have such a hard time understanding Alberta was hit with a double whammy (nep and interest rates) and then equate that to the conservatives fucking things up?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Fuck, some people have their heads buried so far in their echo chambers.

AB will be full of $1 houses if we see high interest rates.
Alberta is a sad place right now. Have had multiple friends hit this year with layoffs. 2019 is going to be even uglier as investment capital has been slashed across the board from majors to small E&Ps due to the shit show the governments have created. We are 2+ years away from any sort of real recovery as well since egress is needed to alleviate the ridiculous differentials.
I took a job in the US last year and I can say it is night and day compared to Canada. The US is booming in every single basin with tons of job postings in all the major cities (Denver, Houston, Dallas, Midland, OKC, even some in Austin). I’m making double what I was in Canada and have been head-hunted like crazy in the past 6 months. An offer last week came in with a 50% bump in salary and well over a six figure signing bonus. This isn’t meant to be bragging, it’s just showing how absolutely insane the O&G industry is in the USA right now. I would HIGHLY recommend people on the board that are either out of work or stuck in a position they hate to start looking in the US. If you are a qualified professional (engineering, G&G, finance, land, etc.) you can get a TN visa quite easily as long as you find a company willing to hire you. Moving sucks but think of it as short term to advance your career and keep growing while Alberta recovers.
I've been lucky so far. Our company is doing well but it sucks for AB/Canada as a whole.
I've been looking at a few postings, some of them explicitly say they won't sponsor outside US. Does this mean I'm SOL for those or would a TN visa count as them not requiring to sponsor me. Not familiar with how working in the US works at all, haven't really looked into it seriously until I spoke with a friend. He said Houston is doing well, could be laid off one week and hired within the day. Not sure how true that is.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
