The bright orange plane belongs to the owner of morrison homes. He fly's it regularly from spring bank to the SE and back.

His helicopter is a way more cool way of skipping traffic.

You can always tell when his buddy pilots it. 10am like clockwork Tuesdays in summer he does barrel rolls and real low passes along barlow/130th.

    Kinda neat.

As my fighter pilot dad would say:. You can't beat the low flying record. Only tie it.

Looking at the crash photos, it looks like it came down flat, vertically almost, most likely a stall.

Small planes terrify me, I've been on one once and I was not happy about it. Curious to hear if they find it to be pilot error or mechanical but I don't think small planes have black boxes.

Back when I was doing health and safety for the small LIDAR company I used to work for, studies showed that General Aviation (non-commerical flights) was more dangerous in terms of deaths per km flown, than driving. For eg, a general aviation flight to YVR from YYC would involve more risk of death, than driving.

After 5 years of working there, we had some minor fender benders in vehicles but a couple of serious, in-air incidents (helicopter and fixed wing) that could have easily resulted in death had circumstances been slightly different. The stats didnt lie.

Is it just me or do the aerial photos show the deceased laying there?

I think they'll find it was pilot error, as with most small aircraft crashes. They require a lot more manual flying and the equipment has a lot less hours/kms than anything commercial where it's usually mechanical that takes out a plane.

Thats incorrect. Most of the time when a commercial flight plows into the dirt, the pilot is to blame.

Pilot error when they're flying manually.

Yeah they may have been doing Stall training, and couldn't get the plane out of it. Both are instructors though so who knows what happened

So if an AC is on A/P; the pilots ignore EGPWS alerts and the AC plows into the side of a mountain, its not the pilots fault then?

What if the A/Ts are armed, but not engaged, and the pilots run out of energy and ram a 777 into the side of a runway seawall at SFO on a calm clear day. Not pilots fault then because they "thought" the AT was engaged?

As an airline pilot myself, I figured I'd chime in on this piece of misinformation. While a small plane generally has less that can go wrong with it just because of its simplicity, a transport category aircraft is designed with layer upon layer of redundant systems in case a primary, backup, or sometimes even tertiary failure.

In most cases, manually flying the plane in the event of an abnormality is often the absolute safest course of action. In fact, with almost all of the malfunctions possible on the aircraft I currently fly, step one is generally to assume control of the aircraft manually in the event that automation was being used.
