Wow, Tkachuk gets one game suspension.
Was expecting a fine
He got the suspension for injuring the goalie.
I watch about 1 in 5 games nowadays. But I happened to watch this Flyers game.
So let me get this straight:
1. The owner is a billionaire that moved himself and his assets off-shore to avoid taxes...and he wants taxes to pay for a new building. riiight.
2. The GM can't properly asset assess value and overpays on trades (Hamonic and Hamilton), and overpays in FA (Brouwer).
3. The President insults the fanbase by calling them stupid meanwhile he never learned how to tie a tie.
4. The coach is clearly incompetent, and hired by #2 and #3
5. The players get paid millions to mail it in and generally look dis-interested.
Guys, let's give this team $400 million!
Or did it occur to the team that maybe we might be better off buying them a bus ticket and working on an expansion plan.
1. Yes he did move to avoid taxes, Yes he does want a portion of the arena to be paid for by taxes just like other owners have had. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
2. No, if anything Treliving has been above average for asset worth. Brouwer didn't turn out but Hamonic and Hamilton play above their contracts. Johnny, Monahan, Ferland, Stone, Versteeg, and Backlund all have contracts that would be seen as great value for performance. Lazar not so much.
3. I missed him calling the fanbase stupid, send over the link so I can check it out.
4. Examples would be great here. I think he is a better coach then the record dictates but he is an easy target and he's not doing much to make people think otherwise. Something needs to change and replacing him will probably come sooner than later.
5. The last 2 games they have looked bad, I would agree that they have not looked prepared at all. The loss tonight puts them outside of the playoff picture. They have been in a playoff position for most of the season so it hasn't been all bad. I think its hard to say they are all bums when admiringly you said you watch 1 out of 5 games.

Caught this over at CP, NHL valuations for 2017.
https://www.forbes.com/nhl-valuations/list/#tab:overall
Flames 23rd in revenue ($129m), 22nd in income ($5.4m). So basically, if the cap goes up by $5.4m, Flames break even. If it goes up more, Flames lose money or have to spend below cap. If this data is accurate, Flames are receiving subsidy from the top teams now which is what Ken King claimed.
Remember this is purely Hockey Related Revenue. Flames ownership makes money on events at the Saddledome as well, but that's gotta be tanking in the last 2 years with big concerts skipping the city. Would be interesting to see how that side of the business looks.
As a measuring stick, if you look at the Panthers, which loses $11m a year on the hockey side, the ownership group which has a similar deal to the Flames ownership group in terms of running events at the arena, Sunrise Sports and Entertainment (SSE) rakes in around $30m of profit a year, so the arena side must be generating $40m+ of profits for the ownership group there. This is the sole reason why the Panthers exist, without the Panthers, SSE wouldn't have such an arena deal.

That second period was fucking bananas! Good on Brouwer for sticking up for Hathaway.
How did we not score on a fucking 1:48 worth of 5 on 3?!?
...
Well, we got 4 posts....
Nobody was anywhere near the net on the extended power play, including the 5 on 3. Not even one guy in front screening the goalie or looking to generate offense. Just pass around the perimeter on a 5 on 3. Dunno wtf that was about.

Our power play consists of “pass to gio and let him shoot from the right point”.
...
Entertaining game but agree with the criticism of our power play.

Who's gone first, Brodie or GG? Usually this team makes a big trade for cannon fodder before firing the coach.
Too loud for Aspen
GG supposedly signed a one year contract in the offseason. Honestly I don't like any of the coaching staff. They can all be punted.
Powerplay was deadly with Versteeg on the opposite side of Gaudreau...not the coaches fault, they need to find a replacement for Versteeg ASAP. I don't follow much on who's available on the market but that's my input.
Other than that, it's the hockey gods that are not on our side right now....all the people complaining that they don't play at 100% for all 3 periods for 82 games in a season obviously have never played a sport in their life.
pick up james neal???
On a different note, 32 games into the season and Nikita Kucherov has 46 points. Years ago on this date and game in, Gretzky had 100 points

Not even close. First month was as bad as it is now, then we had a month of above average PP, and now we're back to how it started. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Coincided with putting Versteeg on the opposite side of Gaudreau with both of them dangling the shit out of the other team...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
