I like the Pork and Century Egg congee topped with ginger, soy sauce and green onion (also if at a restaurant, try adding salt and pepper squid to it).
Turkey congee sounds like an awesome idea, will have to try it next time we roast a turkey!

Fried chicken and gravy tossed into the pot with rice and water is good too.
You guys ever put congee on top of Singapore-Style Rice Vermicelli?
One day I bought seafood congee and the singapore rice vermicelli separately; I got lazy and put the 2 together. I liked it!

It used to be a couple decades back with Double Happiness. Not sure anyone make that now. The chef from DH has passed away since. I have yet to have a good one in Canada. Some bakery make them but they are gross when it's not fresh out of the fryer. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Something about the curry mixed in to congee that makes it good. It's a messy curry soup. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It's like oakmeal but with rice. If seasoned right and with good ingredients, it's good. If it's plain, it's bad. Plain one usually taken with some sort of pickled dish. They also come in various consistency. Some are broiled until rice starts to break down. Some are like soup added to normal steamed rice. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. If you are from southern region of China, this is basically one of the comfort foods.

Yeah, it's been a couple decades since I've had it at Double Happiness which is why I think TYMSMNY's information is seriously outdated. My parents said that chef would refuse to share his recipe, which is why nobody can make it here. I had some really good ones a few years ago in HK. Oh man, they're so good when they're fresh. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
pretty sure the new place in there... Lucky ??? or something had it when they first opened up. Haven't been in there since.
Yes double happiness... haha, grew up on that place. Oh the line ups.
Plain congee with Siu Yeh and then you throw in the S&P silver fish.

- on a Cathay flight to HK...thought it was gross
- out of a tub at a resort.
So I'm not versed in what the good stuff is, I'm sure. I need to make more Asian friends, haha.

DH was in 5 Harvest and then moved across the street inside the mall where Thai Tai used to be. Then owner changed. There were at least 2 to 3 restaurants move into the DH's old spot in 5 Harvest since they left. The current on is Lucky, never been there but looks like a typical restaurant. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
