You are buying from a dealer, can't you work out some kind of shipping with them? They have cars bouncing around the country all the time.
Beats the more than real risk of ruining the car on the way here and risking killing yourself in the process.

As others said you made the right call. I had a dinan 335xi with summers and winters/ even with the x drive it was dicey if I waited too long to switch tires. Mountain passes could be fine or a death trap but not worth the gamble with your car let alone you life.
Thanks everyone; yes I have definitely made up mind on getting winter or at least all-season tires. Going to be calling 1010 right away as I can't take them from here due to the lack of car space after putting the current car's summer rims in it. I would get shipped but then I gotta deal with shipping the current car out too and it's just way too much hassle. I don't mind that drive as long as I have a properly equipped vehicle.
And no it's not another M3. This one is definitely more subdued and probably one of very few proper 'adult' vehicles I've purchased so far. Supposed to be a mix between comfort and the occasional fun driving every now and then still, hopefully satisfied what the X5M lacked and I can actually keep it for a while.
Do NOT do it. A couple years ago I was a dumbass and put on my summer wheels in March (1998 Z28.) Let's just say it's a small miracle that I didn't spin out and die or rear end someone.
It is NOT worth it at all.
Do it if you want to live on the wild side like driving your car off a cliff. But don't worry the purists will tell you you don't need winter tires

I think you should do it.
Please use a dash cam.
Just ship it, cost would be same as having new tires
In case all the replies haven't convinced you yet, a family of a friend attempted to drive from Calgary to Van in Dec 2016 and it ended up fatal. I believe it was a single vehicle accident and they slid off the road going through the mountains. 3 gone, 1 teenage survivor. Yes there are many factors and many people who have done this drive with no issues on bald tires with superior driving skills, etc..... Bottom line is roads can turn to shit real quick and it's not worth the risk.
@shakalaka don't waste your money on all seasons if you have summers, just pay the bit extra and get dedicated winter's. Also, etc did you buy this time jeeeeezz
Trying out a 540 this time. Let's see how that goes. Also have made arrangement with a shop in Surrey to purchase and install all-season tires on the car before I head back. Unfortunately there's just no stock of winter tires left anywhere unless I order online and now there's no time for that. Suppose I could delay delivery but then I have no time until February or later to go out there.
Hold on. 440i was too boring.
So you went with a car with the same engine and more weight?
I really would not go with the all seasons man, just get the car shipped.
Or better yet: just wait, with any luck you will already be bored with it before you take delivery.

I could ship out a set of tires from here and would be there by the end of the week!
That's kind of also a reason but more so shipping would entail me shipping my current car there and then getting the new shipped back and I would still need to go out there at to sign the paperwork and workout the last bit of details and all that so that's just way too much hassle. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. See when I get 'bored' of cars it's not that I find them boring to drive per se. I was bored of the M3, C63, X5M and all that none of them are necessarily boring to drive. I just get bored of the same vehicle after a while kinda thing is more like it and that's regardless of how a vehicle drives. Plus I've got every single option you can get on the 540 so hoping the cool gadgety shit keeps me interested for a while, like those fancy new remote units. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. That being said, I won't lie, I did contact my guy asking for information on a couple of other vehicle options already and I haven't even taken delivery yet. lol

If this will be a summer only vehicle, just buy some PROPER winter tires there locally (CT, 1010 tire, etc) and then sell the Winters once you get here. The couple of $$ loss is worth it.
A/S tires do not belong in the mountains during winter any more than summers. Between the Coquihalla and Rogers pass, its a joke if there has been, or will be, snow flying.
I drove a minivan with A/S tires in Sept through Coquihalla (1 inch of wet slush) and that was dicey enough (rogers pass was clear).
