The Koreans still fail at styling. They won't get true brand cachet until they can go from good engineering to styling that doesn't look like a Chinese knock-off brand.
It's hard to find a truly original design these days as it's a copycat industry. That said the Koreans have stolen a lot from Audi over the years as well as other manufacturers for their interior and exterior styling. Hyundai styling seems to be a step ahead of Kia and I agree with others that look at the front end of this car and see lowly Optima. Otherwise in person it's not a bad looking car.

Bumping because even without any tune... these fuckers are apparently running 12.8 in the quarter, besting 5.0 mustangs and Camero ss
I don't know where you got your info from, but FWIW 2018 5.0's and SS's consistently run low 12's (12.0 vs 12.4 on avg, respectively).

Ya but at one point, the Camaro, mustang, challenger and the Hyundai genesis were all compared in the muscle car category in road and track...

Its he way things are going these days..

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Apparently rebates are coming or available now, making the value proposition a little better. In the USA anyway, but I assume they'll be somewhat similar here.

If you could get one out the door under $40k in Canada, that seems like a pretty nice deal.

I still don't need one, and I still wish it was a wagon, but it's a neat car.

Is the RWD version only a US thing? I was looking at one a while back and the dealer knew nothing about a RWD model

Canada is getting another trim for 2019. It's called GT Line and it starts at $39,995. It's the 2.0T AWD. That's basically what a V6 Camry costs, maybe slightly less even.

I know US has higher price than us but $8K off MSRP is nothing to sneeze at, but also confirms that why the Kia brand has awful residuals.

As much as I want Kia/Hyundai to succeed, I am not surprised they are already offering ~25% off MSRP. They are screwing over everyone who bought one new not that long ago too, I would be pretty upset about that if I was an early owner. They are also telling everyone not to buy any new models until the discounts roll along - they end up starting a trend they may not want (like virtually all American luxury vehicles now).

Then again buying a $60K Kia they knew there was a massive risk going in, and expecting any less would have been naive. They just haven't been able to shake that brand stigma, at least in the high end market. Nobody wants to tell their work buddies they bought a Kia when they could have got a MB/Audi (albeit with less performance or features) for the same money haha.

Agreed. I think the cheesy Kia badge on the front/wheel needs to go. Something about the proportions is also off big time. I think that the front end is way too short. The car just screams "fake" styling wise. There's a grey one at work that I've tried to warm up to and I just can't. It looks confused. The performance is impressive. It needs a stick shift option!

I'm pretty sure it's a Russian doing the styling, same guy who worked on Lambo and Bugatti if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what specific cars he's worked on though.

We all knew the inevitable rebates were coming sooner than later. The Genesis line has yet to crack 10,000 sales in the US this year (885 YTD in Canada). After the initial buzz wears of nobody seems hungry for a 40K plus Hyundai or Kia product. They'll be a great used car buy though!

Is it true that even on the top tier Stinger GT you can't get the LSD that the G70 gets?

    Correct. Mid cycle update supposedly.

As for pricing, the Stinger is really odd. The Stinger in Canada is virtually the exact same price and includes options/features that you can't even get in the US. So it is actually cheaper with equal exchange. So here it is a good deal and in the US it isn't nearly as good which is why they seem to have big rebates down there. You can get $2-3K off here but not sure how much more.

There have been a lot of positive reviews on the Stinger. I just saw this yesterday on Car and Driver and they have the Stinger ahead of many German cars and every single Japanese one:

Definitely can't go wrong with one especially for the price. I definitely came close to buying one last spring.
