Oh wow, look at telus now offering 950/750, 750/750 if you have access to fibre. Still $15/mth extra if you want unlimited vs 1tb bandwidth. That is still kind of funny.
The 3 people in Calgary that can access that will be very pleased

The bandwidth cap on that kind of speed though is absolutely ridiculous. You will hit your cap in less than 2.5 hours of downloading, which for many users would be on the very first day of the month lol.

I would love that upload speed for the few times a month I need it though.

Hah, I use like 20GB a month, even with a little netflix. I don't think I'll hit my Telus Fibre 1 TB cap any day soon.

Nice. They've been offering gigabit internet in Mahogany for a couple months (at Westman Village), I was wondering when it was going to open up to rest of the community and eventually the city.

I like this Shaw vs Telus back and forth. Everyone wins.

FTTH is ok, but cellular is catching up fast now. 1 Gbps per device on celltowers connected by Fiber might be a more useful and ubiquitous solution as time moves forward. As long as Apple catches up to Huawei that is *cough*.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11ay 20 to 60 Gbit "Wireless LAN" as a progression of 802.11 is coming too. As well as wireless HDMI.

The fine print says 300/300 and 750/750 customers get unlimited data included for 0$

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will do back to back wired and wifi comparisons when I’m back from work in a couple days.

    950/750 $115/mth
    750/750 $95/mth
    300/300 $55/mth for 1st 6 month, then $110/mth for rest of contract.

Both have unlimited data if you sign up with 2 year term. But on the 25th month, the $15/mth charge will be back.

That 300/300 plan is a rip off. I think the sweet spot is 750/750.

Well, now we need people on Telus to show some speedtest result afterwards. I heard Telus only gives out private IP address right? So your traffic to internet could be double NAT'ed? Doesn't really matter in the end, Telus will never pull fiber in old neighborhoods for me to consider them.

Just got off with Telus retentions.

Managed to keep my plan at $60 and got upgraded to 300 for only a year with unlimited. I'll just call back in a year so pretty good for now.

My neighbourhood was built in the mid-late 50's and we have fiber to the home. Extraslow's neighbourhood is even older and they have fiber to the home as well.
    Will fuck off, again.

Do they run the fiber in those old neighborhoods off of poles, tho?

In my area the fibre is run overhead. It comes into my property overhead to the garage, the same place Shaw, Telus phone, and Enmax connect.

Aerial FTTH here as well but I know people who work for the company contracted to expand their FTTH coverage and they are aggressively going at it with underground directional boring in areas that don't have aerial infrastructure.

Anyone know if a promotion removal counts as a contract change, thus allowing me to bail on Shaw without having to pay an ECF?
They removed a valueplan discount that wasn't set to expire until June 2020 and replaced it with something that's $30 less.

I checked, and I was WAY OFF!!!! I have a cap of 550 GB/mo on my FTTH 75 plan. In November I used 141 GB, way more than I thought.

Also, I consistently get 90 Mbps download. I'll take it.

    UPDATE:

Shaw “master technician” came out and had a thurough look through everything. Wasn’t hanging over his shoulder but he spent some time in the basement, and then went up the street for awhile to tinker around in the main junction box or whatever it was. Added a second splitter in the basement (which now looks like shit) but I guess it’s a stronger signal to the modem, and I was able to get 330/17 on a wired connection. (See screenshot below from my desktop, taken on a Sunday evening during “peak time.”)

Now, I think I need to move the router up from the basement. Standing beside it on a 5G connection with my iPhone 8, I’m getting ~180 for download. Move up to the third floor however, and it drops to ~18-25. Way too slow. I know the signal is stronger the closer you are; but that seems like too much of a drop for me. The house is wired for Cat5 and I use all 4 ports on the router, I’m thinking I can move it up to the office, plug two Ethernet cables in directly there, the other two into the wall going to the basement, then I just need some sort of “male to male” Ethernet adapter to connect the cables coming down from the modem into the cables going up to the one Apple TV and the XBOX. Think that would work? I’ve got a Coax jack into the office that I could hook the modem directly into.

You could just put a small switch by your devices, they are relatively cheap.
