People working on the project are starting to realize the gravy train is very quickly approaching its final stop.

"After an oral hearing in Calgary earlier this month, the regulator then agreed to allow a pipeline variance, as long as Trans Mountain Corp. abided by a number of conditions, including testing and documentation requirements for the pipe materials."

What were they doing before? just buying any and all giant pipe and assuming it was good? I'm no Engimineer i just draw the pictures, but isn't that what an MTR is for?

Took the words right out of my mouth.

It seems once the Governments owns the project, all the bureaucracy and regulatory headaches that make it impossible for the private sector to do anything just disappear. Weird, innit.

They didn’t disappear, blank cheques just got written for all the BS consulting and environmental “assessment” graft that any company with shareholders that demand a real return would have said no to.

It’s no surprise the costs ballooned as soon as government got involved. Writing blank cheques for bad value is basically the only thing they bring to the table.

Pipe got stuck on pullback. They should've kept reaming in the first place just like engineering told them to

I don't think a single person working on the TMX project would describe it as a gravy train (probably a fucking nightmare from get-go).

Yeah despite this being a very avoidable failure, it's a relatively minor setback. It wasn't stuck very badly, they probably could have hammered it through but they were worried about damage. Rework the hole a bit and try again in a few weeks.

Depends on which side of the project you are on, this has been an insane windfall for the construction contractors. Entire thing is cost-plus and the costs keep coming.

As someone that works at another midstream company and has seen firsthand what they pay PM's to jump over there, I beg to differ.

Based on the feedback I have heard from people working on TMX in construction, engineering and environmental I would also disagree.

Yeah my marketing person knows a few people working on TMX and they're making great, great money. I mean it does sorta suck because if you need to be onsite you're out in the middle of buttfuck BC.
