Except it's the inverse - Canada needs Alberta. The EU didn't need the UK.

Think of it more this way: what would happen if Germany left the EU?

Both would be worse off. It isn’t a zero-sum game.

It's a net positive for Alberta, you're right.

The potential for a good outcome is better than the certainty of a shit sandwich.

Didn't know if I should put this here or not but...

What’s hilarious about our march to no carbon for 2035 is that our neighbors who have a 15x larger carbon footprint than us is so far behind, whatever we do is completely meaningless.

Seriously, they just decided today to stop building new coal plants, and coal phase out in 2035 lol. Big news!

Canadians have a very, very unrealistic view of our importance.

Ironically they're leaps and bounds ahead of Canada for methane reduction regulation. The honest answer is Canada is just looking to see what the US is doing and follow suit.

Maybe in a relative sense, pretty easy to say they have come further when the baseline was doing somehow less than SFA.

When Alberta gets its own pension it will clearly be time to lobby for Calgary and Edmonton to have seperate pensions, at which time it will be clear that NE Calgary should have its own pension.

Capping oil and gas sector emissions is a promise years in the making for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, and after judicial setbacks, right-wing backlash to climate policies and internal division in his own party bubbling to the surface, Canadians should expect an update imminently to this crucial climate policy.

“I would be shocked if by the end of this [UN climate conference] we haven't announced a framework for capping the emissions of the oil and gas sector in Canada,” Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault said Friday at COP28 in Dubai. “It's coming.”
If we are capping anything, can it be JT?

Or cap the deficit and debt service payments?

No wait, Guilbeault wants to do the opposite and run up the debt so high, and devalue the loonie so low, to make it Che Guevara's dream Cubanada.

Guilbeault is a Greenpeace insider and a Chinese climate change board member. I'm sure he's got his marching orders. He should be removed for treason or just conflict of interest. How did this hit get in?!

Check thread title. If it wasn't obvious when the prescient OP started this thing...it certainly is now.

What's hilarious is the entire world knows this with the exception of the liberal government and their voters.

The goal is that Canada would sell carbon credits to the rest of the world, and that that income replace the lost income from O&G exports.

I watch "Negocios TV" on YouTube which is like a Spanish BNN and it's hilarious to me how often they shit all over Trudeau and Freeland. It's probably their favourite authoritarian Government to poke fun at outside of their own, probably because there are a lot of parallels with the moronic policies of the Sanchez Commie Coalition in Spain.

The plan will include a number of compliance options, including the purchase of carbon credits and participation in a decarbonization fund. Companies will pay into that fund if they exceed their emissions caps. The money could then be used to fund green transition projects, one government official said.
Take from the west, give to the rest.
