So the news is all over this being a big bomb in China.

    Thank god.

We do NOT want our hollywood movies catering to the Chinese domestic market. China, as a whole, as horrible taste in movies...and we want no part of it.

I mean, this is the highest grossing movie of all time in China:

Anti-Foreigner sentiment aside, Star Wars was never big in China.

Truth be told, I'm surprised it's being shown at all, given all the uprising in HK and other regions of China.

Saw it Friday, I liked it. In order from best to worst for this trilogy series in my opinion:

    1. Ep7
    2. Ep9
    3. Ep8

Really disliked 8, rian johnson ruined a lot for me in all honesty. I think if it wasn't for 8 and what they had to work with in 9, 9 could've been even better. 7 set the foundation. 8 killed everything. 7 set, and 9 had to figure out what to do to get back on track.
I hadn't watched TLJ since it was in the theatres cause it left such a bad taste in my mouth and that sapped any motivation I had for this movie, but since I do plan on seeing this I had to rewatch TLJ eventually. Just for the fun of it I took a rip of TLJ and using iMovie removed all references of the casino world sidequest and by extension almost all scenes with Finn, Rose, and Benicio del Toro and it's actually quite watchable. With 30 minutes of unnecessary fluff shaved off, it actually flows a lot better.

Is it perfect? No, and some things don't make sense, but in my defense neither did parts of the theatrical cut haha

I finished watching it on the weekend and a few funny things in my re-cut:

    - Finn first shows up just after the Rebels escape in the beginning and right before they realize they were tracked through lightspeed and doesn't appear again until the final dogfight is about to begin. In fact, Laura Dern and Billie Lourd have much larger roles in my version. He's basically an extra with a bunch of lines.

    - Poe isn't even hauled off to the brig for insubordination in my re-cut (cause there's a lot of radio contact between him and Finn during this scene). He just gets in an argument with Laura Dern and pulls a gun on her, along with a bunch of mutineers that come from nowhere

    - Rose is just a fighter pilot in the final dogfight and with that cringeworthy kissing scene removed, the hug he gives Rey is a lot less awkward. Like Finn, she's basically an extra too haha

Also I dislike that they put that hobbit into the movie - I felt like he had way to much screentime, I would of rather a no name actor like rose in his character.

    ^ D’z Nutz for director!

In general Rose’s story arc was just bad and unentertaining, removing it likely fixes the movie I agree.

    Spoiler:
So what did Finn want to tell Rey? I couldn't tell if he was in love with her or what?

    Spoiler:
He knows the force too. But I assume JJ had a love triangle (again like Ep4/5/6) in mind before Rian shove Rose in.

The only problem with this trilogy is not let JJ do all 3 or Rian threw basically all the set up JJ did in Force Awaken except for the Kylo Ren's arc. So now you have 3 disjointed films.

JJ lost a bet and had to put him in the movie.

No need to use spoiler tags guys. If someone wanders into a dedicated thread they better not expect it to be spoiler free

    Because he'd be dead then.

Ren actually did what his father never could - sacrifice himself for his love.

    Watched tonight.

    Really enjoyed it.

Force resurrection made sense right. The sith were so hell bent on achieving it, but it took Disney love to achieve.

I felt Rey should have had all the Jedi ghosts assisting her force deflection toward Palestine at the end.

I wish Mace would have called the emperor a mother fucker. It would have been mic dropping.

I just got back from it too.

I gotta say, I really enjoyed it and now I'm a little sad this part of the saga is over cause Episode 9 really redeemed the shit show that was TLJ. Yeah there was a few "gimme a break!" moments, but overall it was much better than it was crappy.

    Visually, it was stunning.

If you could find a way to get Poe out of there too that would be mint. I can live with Rose as she is just filler character that doesn't really interfere with the main plot. But watching Oscar Isaac and that John Boyega is just cringe inducing.

Do you think after TLJ the shows producers were thinking alright how the fuck are we going to wrap up this shit storm, or do you think from movie 7 they had a clear direction through to the end of movie 9?

Well a substantial amount of RoS was filmed before TLJ hit theatres so I would say the core plot was all there since the beginning.

It was in a complete rewrite mode by the time TLJ was released. Original director for EP 9 left on "Creative Differences".

Star wars lost appeal to me the day they introduced Magenta light sabers. Don't people know that Magenta does not exist?

Hollywood puts far too much emphasis on "Freedom" being a positive trait. I mean, technically the Joker was expressing his freedom right, so does that mean the USA should model itself on the Joker? Thor is incredibly cheeseball. The instant you consider that a guy with a hammer running around half naked as an Asian lead actor? Maybe, maybe not.

Still to this day you are going to get older Asian people saying that "why was that Luke guy such a dickwad for leaving the farm and letting people around him probably starve?" And stupendously loyal stormtroopers should be saving the day. I can absolutely see their reasoning. Cultural differences, shoulda renamed death star to "freedom cannon". It does not help at all that a lot of the assumption that the blonde male lead is assumed to be the protagonist by western audiences, if you go straight in with no pre-conceived ideas - you can actually go down a completely different path.

Brainstorm or Green Needle, once you've started your brain down one path - you will not hear the other.

Funniest of all is when you get a movie with a guy proclaiming they are bringing freedom, and the first thing they do is throw a grenade at a random group of people. James Bond has also been guilty of this, take away the white guy with great hair - replace him with middle eastern dude yelling "Allahu Ackbar" and all of sudden the movie looks like a terror fest.
