THis happened not so long ago in the recent past.

The Conservatives under Harper won a minority government, and the Liberals, Block, and NDP immediately formed a coalition. The THEN governor-general Michaelle Jean asked Harper to form the new government which Harper did. Faced with the NDP and Liberals forming the coalition, Harper then prorogued government with the blessing of GG Jean. Harper successfully prorogued government for ~ 2 months and in this time the liberals ousted then-leader Dion and appointed Ignatieff as their leader. Most of the country hated the idea of the coalition government and event and in the following election, Harper was given a majority government.

I see a scenario like this happening again. I don't expect anything to really happen or get accomplished in the next few years.
Trouble is it is the incumbent that has the option to form government first, and the flip side will be the Liberals doing this instead of the conservatives. With the likelihood of replacing Scheer very high, because there are options available to the conservatives. Trudeau is likely going nowhere as the options to replace him within his own party are not as good.

True, but I don't think that any coalition formed with the liberals holding the PM position is going to last more than a few months at best.

I dunno I could see Turdeau really be into being beholden to the dippers.

He gets all the media appearances and gladhanding and the dippers will just make him spend every cent Canadians don’t have, and he can pretend he didn’t have a choice.

Wtf does Trudeau care if Canada is further bankrupted so long as he sits in the big chair.

Exactly, the only thing bigger than his taxation and spending plans is his ego.

I don't know. I think it's the reason he could kill the TMX with limited political fallout. Then basically to add what's been added here, indeed he will be more than happy to go about his business and blame the deficit on the left leaning parties he has had to partner with. That's what makes it a dangerous situation for the long term economic health of the Country.

The thing is if he kills TMX that means they literally threw away billions of dollars. I don’t see how the blowback from that doesn’t crush them

Approving the expansion then banning the tankers sure didn't cause an issue for him.

The bureaucrats have explained to Trudeau, using hand puppets, just how important Alberta's money is.

Trudeau is a colossal idiot, hopefully he understands that money in a country isn't like his trust fund.

The problem is if you ask Liberal supporters, they'll say they don't care. It's insanity.

Of course I'm speaking for the broad majority, like 90%. Ask women aged 18-35 that voted liberal about TMX and 5 billion. See what kind of answers you get.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

Hey, I agree on that point. At the same time to blow that much money and not even launch a federal appeal on the current court situation boggles my mind. So does delaying the decision to move ahead, or even appeal the original court action. I believe if he got a majority then it would be approved within the first month and pushed hard to construct quickly, so it can go on the back burner again before the next election.

The rank and file liberals know it needs to be built. But they are not appealing to those people anymore.

Easy to spin that one into a climate win...with only the 5 billion cost. But liberal voters don't attach value to public spending anyway

If another Lib government comes in I'm going to laugh so hard. I can only imagine how a few people's heads in here will unscrew... fuck, what a site that will be.

As opposed to the billions they've pissed away already? If that isn't blowback enough that we are even considering the idea of a minority government coming in a few days, then cancelling TMX won't mean a damn thing.

Consider all the typical Left vs Right rhetoric in this thread and inflammatory comments.
