So.... Peters gets fired? I don't see him lasting through these Akim Aliu allegations.
We don't know what happened.

The NHL says it will join the Flames in looking into recent allegations about a racial slur from Calgary head coach Bill Peters.
Former NHL defenceman Akim Aliu tweeted on Monday night that he had a racial slur directed his way by a former coach in 2009-10 while a member of the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Former NHL defenceman Akim Aliu tweeted on Monday night that he had a racial slur directed his way by a former coach in 2009-10 while a member of the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.
The 30-year-old Aliu never referred to Peters by name, but did reference Calgary’s airport code "YYC" when writing about the alleged coach involved in the matter.

Having touched base with Flames GM Brad Treliving and Akim Aliu this morning I can report the two had a conversation regarding the latter’s racism allegation leveled at coach Bill Peters. You can bet the Flames investigation into this will be thorough.
"The behaviour that has been alleged is repugnant and unacceptable," the NHL says in a statement. "We will have no further comment until we have had an opportunity to look into the matter more thoroughly."
Flames general manager Brad Treliving addressed the media Monday when he was made aware of the tweet, and said he plans to speak with Peters before making any further comment on the matter.
The accusation came while Calgary was on the ice in Pittsburgh facing the Penguins. Peters was not available for comment post-game.
The Flames were scheduled to practice in Buffalo on Tuesday ahead of a game against the Sabres on Wednesday.
"I haven’t had a chance to sit down with Bill or our people internally to talk about this and get to the bottom of it," Treliving told reporters. "I would say we take this matter very very seriously and until such time we have a chance to speak internally we wanted to address you people that we’re aware of it."
Aliu’s allegation comes on the heels of reported controversial tactics used on rookies by Mike Babcock, who was fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 20.
Peters served as one of Babcock’s assistant’s for two seasons in the late ’90’s with the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs.
Peters would take on the head coaching position with Rockford for the 2008-09 season, spending three seasons with the IceHogs before rejoining Babcock as an assistant with the Detroit Red Wings in 2011.
Aliu, who was born in Nigeria before moving to Canada, tweeted: "Not very surprising the things we’re hearing about Babcock. Apple doesn’t fall far from the Tree, same sort of deal with his protege in YYC. Dropped the N bomb several times towards me in the dressing room in my rookie year because he didn’t like my choice of music."
Aliu, who played 14 games for the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears in 2018-19, played 48 games under Peters with the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs in 2009-10, and 13 more with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
The IceHogs are the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, who drafted Aliu 56th overall in 2007 out of the Ontario Hockey League.
At the time of the alleged incident, John McDonough was president of the Blackhawks while Stan Bowman was general manager.
Aliu added: "First one to …admit I rebelled against him. Wouldn’t you? And instead of remedying the situation, he wrote a letter to John McDonough and Stan Bowman to have me sent down to the ECHL. 20 year old on pace for 20 goals in his first pro year with zero PP/PK time was off to a great start in his …Pro career."
Aliu has played seven career games in the NHL, all with the Flames between 2011 and 2013.
Like, they should look into it because no one deserves things like that said. But why bring this up now? A decade later. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'd bet that Peters is no longer the Flames coach by the end of the day.
Whether or not you agree on being punished for something you said 11 years ago he's gonna pay the price.
I don't think it's that weird to bring it up a decade later. It's normalized now that this isn't right without much external negative effects. Back then, bringing it up may have fucked your career for good. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I guess that's trueThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Not sure why but I see no problem bringing it up now once he feels more comfortable with it. He was probably around 20 at the time and could have been unsure how to handle this. Now with the Marner/Babcock issues in the news maybe he feels comfortable sharing it. I don't know just a thought. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Either way kids/women/everyone hold on to things for years or a lifetime before ever sharing it. If it happened yesterday or ten years ago it's the same to me.
That's very true. In hindsight I take back what I said and I do see why it takes courage to finally speak out. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Apologize and move on. Unless management is looking for a reason to get ride of him. But i feel the Flames performance this year is player based and cannot be solely put on Peters
Hockey is such a white sport, I'm not surprised that he didn't feel comfortable making this public while he still had a pro career to protect. I have no doubt that racism exists in the game, just like it does in my social circle, and speaking up about it will only help.
I hate to hear about anyone treating anyone with unearned disrespect. It's especially painful when it's someone you've been cheering for. Although, just last week people were talking about how Peters was going to lose his job anyway, so from a team perspective, maybe this is best case timing?

Up until now, we've only heard one side of the story and this hasn't been the first time Aliu has pulled the race card. Former NHL player Akim Aliu said on Monday that current Calgary Flames coach Bill Peters repeatedly hurled racial epithets in his presence in a minor league locker room a decade ago.
Speaking publicly for the first time since he made the allegation on Twitter, the Nigerian-born Aliu said Peters made the remarks in the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs dressing room before a morning skate during the 2009-10 season while the 20-year-old Aliu controlled the team’s music.
“He walked in before a morning pre-game skate and said ‘Hey Akim, I’m sick of you playing that n----- s---,’ ” Aliu told TSN, with Peters, who was then the Ice Hogs head coach, referring to Aliu’s selection of hip-hop music. “He said ‘I’m sick of hearing this n-----s f------ other n-----s in the ass stuff.’
“He then walked out like nothing ever happened. You could hear a pin drop in the room, everything went dead silent. I just sat down in my stall, didn’t say a word.”
Two of Aliu’s Rockford teammates who were in the room at the time of the alleged incident, Simon Pepin and Peter MacArthur, independently corroborated Aliu’s account to TSN on Tuesday.
"I think everyone should be held accountable for their actions or words spoken," Pepin said.
Aliu said Rockford team captain Jake Dowell later confronted Peters about the incident in the coach’s office. Dowell could not immediately be reached for comment.
When Peters then called Aliu into his office to talk about it, Aliu said Peters did not apologize. Instead, Peters again expressed his displeasure in Aliu’s choice of music for the dressing room, with Aliu saying Peters said: “You know, I’m just sick of this n----- s---. It’s every day. From now on, we need to play different music.”
Yeah, I just read that right now. Damn, not looking good for Peters.
So it was in reference to hip hop music and not a direct attack on Aliu's character. Who cares then....
Is there a reason you called it hip hop music instead of referring to it as Peters did? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don't play music on speakers at work and if I do I probably wouldn't choose anything with a lot of profanity or sexual content. Is that all about music though? That would be lame.
Because to me it was always hip hop. I'm not 70 years old. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Literally every old man over 50 calls it n***a noise. That's old news man. It's not worth getting all worked up over. Now if it was a clear attack on Aliu's person. IE "Shut up you stupid N-BOMB". Well that's different.
