When my ground temps gets close to 0°c, I'll stop watering. It's still at 10° first thing in the morning right now.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Are you measuring this with a thermometer or just educated guess?

My outside thermometer was reading ~5°C this AM but obviously the ground should be holding a little more heat, right?

Digital meat thermometer, it was 6° air temp this morning but 10° an inch into the soil and it's a couple degrees warmer three inches down. Normally I'm not this anal about checking temperatures and watering, but since I overseeded so late I want to give them the best chance.

I am still watering but reduced from 30 min to 10 as it's not as hot.

If the seed manages to germinate but not grow very much, they'll die in the first frost. So putting it down now is a gamble because our current daytime highs and lows are enough to germinate the seeds, but if they don't get big enough by first frost (which could happen any day now), they're goners. Rye grass has a better chance, but there's no way Kentucky Bluegrass will make it. On the flip side, if you put the seed down in the beginning of October, there's zero chance of them germinating and they'll either get eaten by wildlife, or just sit there until spring when they'll start growing.

I put mine down last weekend, but I knew it was probably too late already.
So how much growth is needed? Also, will this thicken up or will I be doing this again next spring? Never seeded before.

    Edit: seed down Sept.4th

We have an abundance. My mother-in-law gifts them to us every year, because she seems to think turkeys should be cooked to 200°F cremated, and doesn't trust our cooking.

I touched the meat thermometer on the oven element one year to make it beep so we could eat before 21:00.
    Profit.

Looks good. Keep up the routine. Might be tough coming back in the spring if we don’t have a warm fall to get it really established.

I nuked my embarrassing amount of weeds and particularly clover with Killex a few days ago. Today they stuck out like a sore thumb which I assume is because of how the chemical works to cause their hyper growth to explosion... But today I cut the lawn hard and trimmed hard. Now I'm worried that without their leaves out to continue their hyper growth explosion, they will be back with a vengeance next year...
    Sigh?

My lawn reno is done. Aerate, top dress, overseed. One week later I have germination. Weather continues to be in the mid 20s. West Coast life ain't bad. Name: 20220919_173226.jpg

Cut down my watering time and frequency last night..5 min every second day just to keep it green a bit longer. Don't know if it's the right way to do it this time of year, but will see how it goes.

    That's what I've been doing

A bit longer at a couple of the bits underneath the couple small trees I have as the soil was basically dust underneath them when I aerated
