Oddly the base model Canada gets does not match the US base model. They get a SR AWD and we get a SR RWD with quite a bit less range than they do. Quite odd, hopefully they offer the US built model up here or fix the LR price. Only the SR dropped yesterday.

I still can’t see ever wanting to own a Tesla but do appreciate this downward pressure on prices and hope it means other makers will stop being out to lunch with crazy markups.

The Model Y and Ioniq 5 are quite close in msrp now, overall I think the Ioniq is the better vehicle but Tesla has better battery & supercharging network which is hard to not consider
Our SR RWD is from China with CATL LFP battery. It's a compliance vehicle to trigger rebate.

I disagree. They're exceptional at mechanical stuff. It's purpose-built to only last while the car is under warranty. Anything beyond that is over-engineered, and erodes margins with no benefit to the business. 70s/80s/90's Mercedes are a testament to the fact that they can build something that'll last forever if they have the budget.
you cynical bastard. i love it.

It cracks me up when anyone tries to justify their brand-whoring because of reliability. Especially for the mass-market cars. The idea that a BMW 3-series or X3 is much different than a KIA sedan or crossover (or ford or whatever) is kind of insane.

Is that the Chinese knock off of Fremont?

Because that would be really really funny.

The rumour mill is saying that the cheapest Model Y will now be imported from China. Bet build quality goes up.

I would guess China has far better control of their employees habits during working hours than California does

The main difference will be they'll intentionally cut corners, vs californians doing it out of ineptitude. End result will be the same though.

    At 1/3 the cost.

    https://www.reuters.com/business/aut...ts-2023-04-17/

Before tax, workers can earn around 110,000-120,000 yuan a year, including bonuses and overtime pay
That's like $17k/yr USD. You can't even hire someone to flip burgers for that in Cali.

And competitors in China say Tesla is paying staff too much.

Caulk where caulk is supposed to go. Caulk where welding is supposed to go.
    What's the difference?

Apparently Tesla’s inventory is building. They no longer have more buyers than cars available. The price cuts were meant to deplete inventory but I guess they didn’t really work.

Maybe updating their aging line up would help more.

A truly new model 3 would move the needle. People want to like it.

Truly new? I don’t think you have been subscribing to Busters indistinguishable skateboard blog.

I was just about to launch into a polemic and then you beat me to it.

Maybe Tesla can continue their genius steering yoke idea and cut it down to a quarter of a wheel?

I agree with Buster mostly. But Tesla could sell more if their customers considered the car to be truly new.

And pick some different fucking colours, too.
"Yo, your $70k car is ready and the colour you selected is an extra $700."
"No thanks. Only want free colours."
