They want to anchor to something that they can compare to for their own psychological well-being. People much prefer being wrong but assuaged than right but scared.

No it is purely about having context to see if our current response is comparable or not to how we would have reacted in past times. And in this case we are very clearly over reacting in comparison to previous risks.

As I've said before, it's fine and dandy if we as a society want to drastically change our response to these issues going forward, I just want someone to explain what justifies this change? Nobody has been able to do so.

On other words: PCR as a diagnostic test for symptomatic cases is becoming very important for proper treatment.

In what way? A PCR test tells you virtually nothing other than there are fragments of the virus on the sample. Assuming the positive test is not a result of cross contamination that is relatively common, it still doesn't tell you if the virus is infective, virulent, etc. It's basically a tool that allows someone to quarantine as a just in case precaution.

Managing an event space over the summer, they were out enforcing the rules for businesses. Except, it was always retroactively and based on complaints / tips from the public. We also happened to be an outdoor space in a fairly busy community close to a C-train station, so it was really easy to see if we were breaking any rules. Also, people would post on social media about their experiences, and complaints would be generated from there. Agreed that it is going to cause people to snitch more often on their neighbours, since that is really the only way for AHS et. al to know what's going on.
