The main Covid problem is the average joe (which exist in numerous forms in this thread) do not understand exponential functions.

This is why putting seniors away make as much sense as telling a 5 year old to cook dinner for the family on a open fire pit. If 10% of their care takers are hit, it will eventually hit the seniors.

Even if people over 60s deserves to die, there is no point putting our health care professionals in such position.

People are too selfish to think of others. I guess it's just basic human nature.
Don't yeah know, we should just lock the seniors in their homes, lock the caretakers in there too, and ban all visitors. All so that the younger people can live life freely.

They also don't seem to understand that is the ICU beds are full of 80+ year olds due to covid, there's no room for car accident victims, fire victims, etc.

They can't unplug an 80yo, because a 10yo needs the bed.

AFAIK the purpose of the lockdown was to avoid overwhelming the hosptitals and the subsequent triage related deaths that nobody wants to see. Seems like a simple equation to me.

current and trending infection, hospital, icu admittance rates combined with max hospital capacity gives us an accurate timeline when we will exceed normal capacity and emergency capacity. Walk that date back two-three weeks and there is shutdown day if the situation doesn't improve.

I believe they can. If they have reason to believe the kid has a better survival chance they will be treated. Same goes for the old person though. I don't know if they can triage based on age here, but their current condition and prognosis is a big factor.

"The CMA framework suggests prioritizing people with a "reasonable life expectancy," and among those with equal survival chances, those with more life years left. Elderly patients and many with disabilities thereby risk getting the short end of the stick...
The Ontario guidelines also recommend withdrawal of ventilator support of those at higher mortality risk, in order to prioritize those at lower risk, depending on the level of scarcity. For example, under the most serious shortage scenario, a 60-year-old patient with moderate Parkinson's would be refused access to a ventilator or be withdrawn from it in favour of one without this condition.

Some information on current ICU capacities and some info on increasing. Not as much as I'd like but it's a start.

So you are all saying that 80 years old should be treated like minks.

"Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca said Monday that late-stage trials showed its coronavirus vaccine was up to 90% effective, giving public health officials hope they may soon have access to a vaccine that is cheaper and easier to distribute than some of its rivals."

That's very good news as you can vaccinate 10x more people with this than Moderna/Pfizer for the same price.

Their sacrifice won't be in vein, now we know herd immunity for COVID19 is BS.

Also points out the dangerous ideology of applying a known/accepted policy of the past against an unknown entity.

That was a bit of a policy failure.

Why not just show the comparison based on population size?
