We're well into community transmission. The government doesn't want to admit it of course. We passed that point where it was isolated to just people who directly traveled and their immediate families. We didn't screen, didn't quarantine, didn't restrict travel... The symptoms for the 90percentile are mild, most people probably don't even realize they're sick... It'll be the seniors facilities and hospitals where it becomes self evident...

My kids daycare emailed us last night stating that a parent was in contact with a confirmed covid-19 patient at work. The parent and child are in self quarantine at the moment, it’s only a matter of time before we get a cluster in Calgary.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not trying to downplay or be callous about the risk to senior citizens. I know many members like @Tik-Tok have high risk people in thier lives. I do as well. Just honestly not sure there any realistic method of protecting those people once we get into full community transmission.

How do they define mild?

The severity of symptoms variable was categorized as mild, severe, or critical. Mild included non-pneumonia and mild pneumonia cases. Severe was characterized by dyspnea, respiratory frequency ≥30/minute, blood oxygen saturation ≤93%, PaO2/FiO2 ratio <300, and/or lung infiltrates >50% within 24–48 hours. Critical cases were those that exhibited respiratory failure, septic shock, and/or multiple organ dysfunction/failure.

Now, I can't speak for you, but for me, I have never had an acute condition on the level of mild pneumonia. So, I could have a "mild" case of COVID-19 and yet be the sickest I've been in my entire life. I believe this is probably true for a lot of people

Friend of mine posted there was a suspected case in her sons school in the NW. Waiting for results today for a confirmed positive but the CBE went a head with a complete disinfect of the school anyways.

So you have a cough and think I better self quarantine.. 10 days later and it amounts to nothing so you go back to work for 2 days, and then you have the sniffles or something.. You're gonna take 2 more weeks off work? It's now a month off work and then you finally get it, and are out for 4 more weeks..

I'd rather just get it now and get it over with before the rush at the hospitals.

Hey I’m against the hysteria as much as anyone on here,

But a quarantine isn’t about protecting you from getting sick, it’s about stopping you from getting everyone else, especially at risk people who can’t handle getting sick, sick.

This is why relying on people to self quarantine doesn’t work, because when the chips are down there is no incentive for an individual to do so. The only effective quarantines are those backed up by force, military or police generally, unfortunately.

But seriously I'd love the numbers - how many wrongful death lawsuits could we pay for what it's costing us in ambulances and crews by this methodology?

I keep hearing young millennials without proper work health coverage saying it's no big deal and still want to travel to outbreak area and cruises.

There’s no confirmation that by getting it and recovering that you build any immunity to it, people have become reinfected and some have even died after given the all clear they’re free of the virus
