Can we touch on this?
Let me start by saying the thing white people are not allowed to say: I believe it's severely affecting people in multi-generational, crowded homes and people who go to God Buildings.
Now everyone, pick your jaw up off the floor and listen while I also mention that it's severely affecting Hutterites and those people are Casper-White. It's affecting them for the same reasons.
Hopefully that makes something that should have been okay to say in the first place, okay...

So, how does it spread so effectively from there? What are the "low risk activities" that so many are doing that are causing exposure and transmission?

The Hutterites keep to themselves except for trips to Costco and Canadian Tire, where zero of them wear masks and they lie like a fucking sidewalk about symptoms. I think that's going to cause a tiny bit of external spread, but I wouldn't expect much.

The other groups of primarily newer Canadians have lots of folks who work in hospitals, so I can see some spread, there. But, hospitals are set up to contain outbreaks quite effectively. Another very dominant employer is the food service industry. I would have thought it would spread like wildfire from there; however, that mysteriously appears to not be the case.

So, I feel lost. Where are we all getting it from? If we can identify some groups that should be super spreaders and have trouble tracing the spread outside of that group, I struggle.

I also really struggle with other common virus rates being eradicated during this while CoVid essentially disappears (in August) and then surges back. And you can quip that "it doesn't follow the rules" or that it's "unfair to compare it to influenza" but I've seen people have repeated direct exposures without becoming infected while others catch it seemingly like they were in that movie The Happening with virtually zero explanation.


*Please understand that I know it's coming from a variety of fronts, not just the two I mentioned. I'm just using examples where it seems difficult to trace the spread.

Getting groceries is the one thing that the vast majority of people do. Maybe there are higher rates of transmission in grocery and convenience stores than we realize. If COVID positive people are willing to lie to get into hospitals and nursing homes, they sure aren't going to have any qualms about going to 7-11, Safeway, or Costco.

Here in Toronto you can't go inside any public spaces without one, and they have security strictly enforcing. Common areas of private buildings too - condo lobbies, etc.

I had to dip into the liquor store really quickly because I forgot something and got a lecture for wearing my sweater pulled up over my face (the one time I didn't have one of my 10,000 masks on me).

I got in a big argument with the security guard who was trying to boot me out for wearing my very thick hoodie all the way up on the bridge of my nose.
