Pandemic or not, canadian hospitals are always overwhelmed and people die from lack of care while waiting in the ER.

What do you mean? 4 hours is totes reasonable for an emergency.

Are we complaining about AHS today? I get frustrated when Emerg dept is where you get funneled by 811 staff for non-Emerg stuff and then you have to wait five hours.

Those wait times are for people who shouldn’t be at emerg to begin with. I’ve had to go to emerg a couple of times for me and others, and we’ve always been admitted almost immediately. I mean, we’re not going to emerg for a fever or something trivial.

the lockdowns weren't stopping shit, everybody knows that, they were putting the situation on hold so hospitals weren't overwhelmed, and they had time to produce and distribute a vaccine.... it did exactly what it was intended to do, prevented people from dying due to lack of care, and proved nothing that the conspiracy clowns said.
    This.

The lockdowns were a strategic retreat. Unfortunately, we didn't really have any playbook for it so it didn't go well...but that's life.

The system is pretty bad at giving people options outside of Emerg for certain items. Family Docs are great, if you can get in, some people have access to an after-hours clinic through their PCN, if they are part of one, and they know the secret code to get access. Downtown urgent care appears to be for drug-related issues only. 811 often advises people to go to emerg. TBH, I find calling 811 a total waste of time.

the wait time website is such a wrong sense of wait time to use as 2 weeks ago my 12 year was hit by a strong stomach flu, took him to the the children hospital after a 2hr visit with my GP and that we had to rule out appendicitis, the wait time when I arrived was around 2.5hrs, then as I waited, it turned into 3.5, 4.5 and then 9 hours later it was 11.5 and I was still waiting. Sure we know serious patients are seen first which I dont mind but please make those that wait comfortablely because it was not, 9 hrs of hearing kids cry and scream nearly broke me, there was one kid that was swearing and kicking and yelling 'dont fcking touch me' felt like he was being dragged to slaughter. and another kid punching his mom because he was being ignored talking on the phone. Driving me nutz, so I had the nurse check on my son and confirmed from her experience it wasnt anything serious, and I left because I was told if I got a room, it could still be another couple of hours.

That's blatantly false. 2 WEEKS TO FLATTEN THE CURVE!!! That's literally what everyone believed when they were sold this horseshit from the government. If the majority didn't believe it, there would've been some rioting going on over a 2 year lockdown like the internals at AHS were discussing at the time.

It's wild that even after years of this playing out, and everything you believed being well proven wrong, you can still cling to your ignorance so strongly.

they had to tell you idiots whatever they thought you'd buy to make you follow the restrictions to buy time because they knew you weren't gonna respect it anyway... it's sad when they have to mandate common sense...

This was an error, however. The policy makers felt that the means justified the ends when it came to lockdowns and other policies. Now no one trusts them, nor should they be trusted. The only reasonable path forward for the policy makers then, and in the future, is to tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may. Their duty is to tell the truth.

also, "flatten the curve" was to releive the hospitals, that's exactly the intent, and result.

Lying isn't a bad idea just because it is morally wrong, but it also removes trust in our institutions, which ultimately will lead to worse outcomes. Telling the truth isn't a nice-to-have for a functioning society, it is a necessity.

"you made me lie to you" or "I lie to you for your own good" is the sort of thing an abusive spouse says. It's not a defensible position for a spouse or a politician.

really though, Kenney lied a lot, and forced other officials to lie too, this is no surprise.
