You bought insurance, you didn't pay for the service. Other people who don't need the services paid for you.

If AHS budget is purely funded by AB tax payer, your share is around $1700-$2000/yr depends on the year. If there is private option, you can shop around insurance on that.
You're entitled to whatever perception you choose. Doesn't change the fact that healthcare is 40% of the combined budgets, meaning it accounts for 40% of my tax bill. If healthcare went private, than there is no need for me to be footing poor peoples doctor visits. And that money should be refunded to me.

Maybe you missed the entire context of the conversation? Or you're making some crazy proposition that going to private healthcare would lead to non tax payers getting a 2000$ subsidy check?

Might have something to do with the fact that the vast majority pay almost nothing, leaving people who actually pay taxes to foot a bill many times higher than his 1700 marth

Oh. And those people who pay almost nothing, use a disproportionate amount of the service. Because free, and stupid.

Which is why we need a hybrid model at a minimum for users to have some sense of financial burden and responsibility. Instead of calling 911 because they are constipated.

Just saying that you get $50K back for opting out an insurance scheme is almost as absurd. Nobody will know what a private scheme will cost. It may be better and it may be worse. But flexibility and options usually cost more.

For argument sake, average per person health care premium is around $400/mth in WA. Our system only cost like $1000/year for a family when we had to pay them. But do we get 1/5 of the service?

My mom just went thru breast cancer surgery at the peak of 1st COVID wave and I was quite impressed what we get based on what we paid compared to my aunt in Virginia who is still slaving away in her late 60s too afraid to quit going thru the same shit.

Yea. It’s called making people pay for shit they waste.

Very effective. People learn fast, even the stupid ones.

While we are at it, I'm paying enough into CBE for 6 kids as investor of best asset class while I have none. But end of the day, that's just cost of doing business.

A true market driven healthcare system would see costs go down, service level go up, wages get constantly market tested. It would be better for about 95% of the population. The other 5% provide the important function of being a warning for the poor bastards who are on the bubble.

This is how you get so much awesome shit in the rest of your life: cheap high quality food, housing, cars, energy, cell phones, hookers, cocaine, butt plugs, nipple clamps, art rooms, etc.

It’s not the cost of doing business. That’s the point.

It’s the cost of subsidizing mooches.

Since nothing is absolute true to the form, I have seen some successful middle ground. It's just health care is too emotional for anyone even attempt to move the needle even a little bit.

Hopefully there is some courage for change after COVID.

My brother just tested positive. He's isolating in his basement. With a home theater. And a nice bathroom/bedroom. And the bar. And Uber Eats.

    and no kids.

Fucking vacation is what it is.
    @Buster
Late to reply but, does he have a steam shower in that bathroom?

Or does @88CRX not actually need one in his reno?

50% of ontarios covid hospitalizations are people who caught covid while in the hospital for something unrelated...

    Time to move on.

Wouldn’t be surprised if hospitals are accidentally on purpose taking zero precautions and letting the virus spread. More Covid patients in hospitals more money for the hospital. Seems like quarantine procedures for real Covid hospitalizations don’t exist.

The letter is signed by the United Nurses of Alberta, the Alberta Teachers' Association and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, which is the largest public sector union in the province.
Public sector calling for lockdowns and income loss on businesses while they are unaffected and can sit home with pay. Just STFU already.

    That's so unacceptable.

I get that the vaccine program didn't halt Covid as expected. That's crappy, but with anti-vaxxers and variants, it happens. But aside from that, there are mistakes being made which could have been prevented with just a little foresight.

This would be one of them.

Every Gov't Union should be decertified, no exceptions. They are decades past being useful or contributing positively to the wellbeing of the taxpayer.
