Academic paper in 2005 showing flight restrictions and airport testing don't work in a pandemic. She was wrong on travel bans – something the Liberal government ended up imposing over a month later. She was wrong on asymptomatic transmission and voluntary quarantine, as the lack of quarantines early on meant that cases in China became cases in Canada. We're employing someone as health minister who has been dead wrong on everything coming out of her mouth, on the very subject of the current crisis.
She was wrong on the masks as well, but so was the US CDC.

Anyone else disappointed that the Alberta government has grouped Calgary as a whole in the Covid-19 map?
I liked having the different areas of the city broken down like it was an election.

That's Nenshi trying to pretend you don't suffer from urban sprawl.

25 confirmed today but that is probably the result of them changing the cut off times to 2pm. Look at the tests.

My GP says unless you're being admitted for covid like symptoms or a Healthcare worker, you're not getting tested right now.

My GP is awesome - zoom call to check up on me.

That's going to throw the new cases etc way off...

I'm guessing thats why they expanded testing criteria. They realized they have additional capacity beyond healthcare workers and people in care homes so they're adding more criteria now. It's kind of a good sign.

Obviously we're missing some community cases now but the fact that hospitalizations is flat and they aren't maxed out on people needing tests is a good sign. Now we can be more strategic in things trying to rout out the remainder of the virus.

I'd really like to see them take ~500 tests a day and test random people with symptoms to get an idea of how many people have COVID-19. Like if 50,000 people call in sick and you test 500 of those and 10 are positive then you can roughly (very roughly) estimate we have 1,000 cases ongoing out there. Not accurate but at least gives some idea of how widespread things are.

Widespread community exposure testing will be done with serology tests, not molecular tests.

500 random tests out of a lot of people is like lottery. Perhaps test subsets of people more likely to communicate the disease. Starting with sexy people.

I want to hear what your thoughts are after you get through them.
I had a chance to go through the majority of these images. Unfortunately, they are of variable quality and resolution, so some of them were in a format that was not very useful. The images I looked at are in line with what the radiology literature is describing for COVID-19.

From the literature I have reviewed: CT is more specific for COVID-19 than chest x-ray (CXR). CT abnormalities were often present in asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic patients even in those who initially tested negative by RT-PCR in China, but then tested positive later, or in those patients from Diamond Princess who tested positive, but were not symptomatic at the time of diagnosis. CT findings most often seen with COVID-19 include the appearance of ground-glass opacities (GGO) in a peripheral distribution in the lungs, affecting the lower lobes and demonstrating multiple-lobar involvement. In those who deteriorate, they develop CT and CXR features of ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), consolidation which could mean superimposed infection with a bacterial pneumonia, pleural fluid, and pneumothorax (air found in the space between the lung and chest wall), though the latter may be a complication of positive airway pressure mechanical ventilation.

I also recently reviewed the Fleischner consensus statement regarding the use of chest imaging (CXR and chest CT) for patient management, which gives suggestions for different medical resource models, availability of RT-PCR and pre-test probabilities for COVID-19.

    https://pubs.rsna.org/doi/10.1148/radiol.2020201365

    The take home message:

    - Imaging is not indicated in patients with suspected COVID-19 and mild clinical features unless they are at risk for disease progression.

    - Imaging is indicated in a patient with COVID-19 and worsening respiratory status.

    - In a resource-constrained environment, imaging is indicated for medical triage of patients with suspected COVID-19 who present with moderate-severe clinical features and a high pre-test probability of disease.

There's no stopping it... This isn't a month or two month long event - this ends when all the succeptible people get it and recover. Staying home doesn't eliminate it, or stop it from coming back, just controls the spread... It's over when we've all recovered from it. Maybe... If it doesn't reinfect...

I can't fucking wait till they start doing that widespread, it's the key to restarting our economy as far as my little mind understands.

Quebec and Ontario a dumpster fire based on their modelling, we aren’t going back to work anytime soon.

Times like this I’m glad I live in buttfuck sask where we got 11 new cases in last two days.
