Default Shaw VS Telus for Internet + Cable package

Our 2 year contract for Shaw Internat + Cable is expiring, couldn't find a current thread on here regarding Shaw vs Telus but what the deal these days?

At first glance it looks like our $140/month Internet 300 + Cable w/ HBO is going to turn into $180/month Internet 600 + Cable w/ HBO. What gives?

Are Telus and Shaw still offering additional discounts if you swap from one to the other?
Is internet 600 actually twice as fast a internet 300 even at peak times?

Are you in an area where you can get FTTH?

Swapping between another usually means a solid bill credit, 2-3 months free.

Telus has had the stacked benefit that you save more if you have mobile services with them, which Shaw doesn’t offer.

I saved a ton moving all my services to Telus versus Shaw. I also just felt like after 7 years with them Shaw was in full take for granted mode, whereas at least with Telus my fees are locked for 2 years. Shaw is notorious for making you sign a 2 year deal to secure 3-6 months of discounts. So your bill just keeps going up despite being locked in.

Bonus points is that my internet is way better 300/300 versus 300/15.

I would go with Telus. Ive been with both over the last 10 years and Telus is far superior. Unfortunately im stuck with Shaw right now as Telus does not have FTTH in my area and even all the copper nodes are full except for internet 15 which is laughable. Telus couldnt even tell me when they were expanding their system to either provide FTTH or open up more nodes.

I just renewed new contract with Shaw.

$119/month Internet 300 + Bluecurve TV for 2 years. All new equipment free rental, new XB6 modem and Bluecurve TV stuff. Was paying $153 previously. But right after I signed up, I started seeing Facebook ads for even cheaper. $99 for Bluecurve TV and Internet 600 for 2 years. Dang it!!

I'd switch for FTTH, but Telus won't ever bring it, I don't think.

I’m shocked that my ancient community has it and yours doesn’t.

The fiber location thing on Telus' website says my neighborhood has it. Might be worth it.

Not sure if you've seen it yet but if you're considering switching to Fiber, Telus has a promo right now for $85/mo which gets you 940/940Mbps internet, unlimited data, free equipment and a $200 bill credit. Two year term.

additionally, OP, if you want to switch to TELUS, I can put you through our referral system. It usually can net you a better deal, but YMMV. I don't get anything for it IIRC, but I am always willing to help out Beyonders.

What are the specifics of your new plan? If I can avoid retention's on the phone I'd take something for $120/month.

Don’t need to talk to retentions if you have no intention on staying lol.

Damn I feel like I am getting ripped off haha. I got You Pick 6 and 150mbps for $141 all in, that's after $40 discount for 2 years which I got about 6 months ago. I see they have gigabit for $85 for new customers, and some people on here get better deals than mine with same TV service. I think it's time to call them. Been a customer for like 10 years now.

    FTTH > Cable > DSL.

Telus keep sending guys to my house and I told them every time until I see fiber being pulled into my home, they won't get by business.

For those of you with shaw bluecurve is it any good? I have shaw 300 right now and it's garbage. Speeds very inconsistent and drops down under 100 many times when I check with my hard wired pc that's connected directly to their modem and wireless always drops even when using a different access point and 5ghz is marginally better than 2.4. This problem is happening at two houses. I called a few times and complained and nothing has changed but I don't have a bluecurve modem and they suggested to replace it but costs extra per month. I had telus 75 before and it's a hundred times better than shaw right now so I might change back.
