Someone edumacate me. PCR swab for active infections is $120. Serology is $80. Wouldn't the cheaper serology test also detect active infections? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yes, I have delayed trips due to concerns with the virus.
No, I am proceeding as planned with all travel.
Yes, but I will take precautions and still go.
The Corona threat is all a bunch of hogwash.

I don't believe so. I believe it indicates a previous infection because you show some version of antibodies (or it rules out a previous infection). That is unrelated to your current infection status. There is clear evidence that a previous infection does not guarantee you immunity from future infections. Coronavirus is not like chicken pox. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I mean...wouldn't a current infection also produce antibodies that are detectable by this test? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It does but it takes a bit of time. Lets say you get exposed by the virus on the 1st, typically you'd show symptoms on the ~5th and start testing positive around then. It takes a few days for the virus to build enough to affect you and be detectable. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
And then it spreads in your body for a while after that while your body goes wtf is this shit. Then your body starts to figure out how to fight the virus (same as the cold, flu, etc) and you begin to recover. Once the virus is defeated your body still continues to build proteins to fight the virus because it doesn't really know if the virus is coming back. This is when you start having a build up of antibodies in your body and is detectable via a blood sample.

You can read the faq. It's not very in depth but has a bit of extra info if you'd like.
Thanks! I must have missed that in the FAQ.
Welp. The camping season is over, and I didn't get back to Van.Island for the first time in 24 years. So definitely affectedy travel.
On the plus side, we enjoyed a lot more AB camping than ever before. Did lots of eastern side sites, and was pleasantly surprised by most.
That's sad! Why? There were no restrictions for Albertans. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm sure Albertans not being allowed to book public camp grounds had something to do with it, and I'm sure private were booked and hard to findThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Sig nuked by mod.
Maybe that's it. I went for a visit with no issues, but I was not camping. Ferries were running, even with food service. Planes all good. No horse shit quarantine like those PEI morons. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
This is pretty much it. You can be infectious/transmissible and not show positive for antibodies, and you can be positive for antibodies and not be infectious (obviously). This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
What we NEED is antigen tests, which basically detect someone whether someone is infectious or not. But FDA doesn't like them.
We don't NEED anything when we have REGENERON!!! Such an EPIC name for a drug. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Is there anywhere in Calgary to get private COVID Testing? With places like Hawaii open now but with a narrow 72hr negative test window, I feel like you wouldn't be able to rely on AHS testing results to come in on time.

80$ - Schedule in advance, they come to your house. Results in 48hrs and you can pay extra for weekend delivery if necessary.
Thanks - it's cheap too. It does have to be a NAAT test though, specifically. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yeah, I think AHS is partially subsidizing it to be able to test more. It says 150$ for non-residents. I used them for thanksgiving, did a swab 8pm Thursday and had results Sat morning. Dynalife processes the tests in Edmonton. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Last time I read the rules, looks like they only take results from trusted partners. So not sure how that works for us Canadians as we don't have CVS/Walgreens up here. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Interesting. The article I read said it just had to be a CLIA certified lab but I haven't had time to look into it further. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
