There is video of it on Facebook. You can see what looks like the pilot eject, but was angled towards the ground, so doesn’t look promising. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Pilot punched out but was quite low. Apparently he landed on a house adjacent to the one that his plane hit.

Did his chute even open?
Not sure. According to a Kamloops resident with a police scanner there was one fatality but nothing has been confirmed. Apparently the homeowners escaped alive.
Rumours are that it may have been a mechanical or electrical issue.
This issue has been brought up again and again - while accidents are bound to happen with any training exercise, these ships originate from the early 60s.
Flying around promoting 'canadia' in jets that are ~60 years old, is not exactly inspired.
Glad to hear they are planning on a replacement in 2030 - would be nice to finally see some air muscle in the form of an actual fighter - but they will likely continue the trend of using training aircraft like the BAE Hawk.
Oh no, I was looking forward to seeing them in town.
Gotta be mechanical, could be mistaken, but he starts trading speed for altitude pretty much right off the tarmac.
Pretty sure they did decide on a derivative of the hawk as the replacement. But I'm told it's because it's like the Tudor - short field capable. So they're not limited to 10k foot+ runways.
They are never going to use a tactical airplane for airshows...other than the F-18 demo or equivalent.
I'm no airplane mechanic and I get that the maintenance is rigorous but are we overly surprised that a 60 year old plane goes down?
Sad the pilot died, hopefully the other survives without disability. If you ever wondered where I get it from my mom's response was "Women drivers.".

Hearing they lost the pilot. Tragic.

I'm confused.
If it was a woman dead? Wouldn't that be a maintenance crew? The 2020 flight crew appears to be all men?

Not only that, they haven't really been significantly updated since 1976.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
RCAF lost a relatively new Cyclone in April and look at all the 737MAX crashes. You can’t say this crash is due to age, 60 months or 60 years, aircraft crash.
And the engine starting popping just after takeoff, followed by pitching up... Bird strike? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Course there's going to be questions about why an engine failure turned into a crash with fatalities...
This is a field Beyond has some very qualified members to comment on, for a refreshing change.

The tutor does not have a zero/zero ejection seat, meaning you need certain speed and altitude for proper parachute deployment.
