Because if you push non confidence motion out, and lose. Then your supporters start to question if A) You actually know what the hell you're doing B) They're on the "right" side(popular side, because let's face it, that's how the average idiot aligns themselves) C) You carry a major loss into the election.

I'd be interested to hear how you feel the Conservatives benefit by losing a non confidence vote right now?
I disagree with this assessment. I think it allows PP to attack the NDP, which he may already be thinking is his real competition in the election.

The entire role of an opposition party is to propose things that will not pass a vote. That's the job. if they didn't do that, there'd be (nearly) no reason to be there.

And if Heir Justin was on "the popular side" he would have a majority govt. Instead he gets to laugh at Jagmeet one week and then get bent over by him the next with nationalized dental care for comrades.

Bingo!....Jughead will never drop support as he's not eligible for is golden handshake until February of next year and Quebec doesn't see much of the direct effect of the carbon tax.
AND his supporters are either in the bottom quintile of mouth breathers that actually benefit from the tax or too brainwashed to question anything the Government tells them and believe they do.

It draws the line in the sand for Canadians following this motion. Now it is very public knowledge that everyone in the house supports the Carbon Tax except the Conservatives. So if the next election is going to be a carbon election, the Conservatives now have documented proof the Libs and NDP fully support taxing Canadians to death.

I thought the reason for the tactic was obvious but I guess not.

    We fucked.

Federal government posts $25.7-billion deficit between April and January (msn.com)

The federal government recorded a budgetary deficit of $25.7 billion as of the end of January for the current fiscal year.

The Finance Department says in its monthly fiscal monitor that the deficit between April and January compared with a $6.4-billion deficit during the same period a year earlier.

The latest figures suggest government revenues increased by $10.5 billion, or three per cent, largely due to higher personal income tax revenues, other tax revenues and non-tax revenues.Meanwhile, program expenses excluding net actuarial losses increased by $21.2 billion, or 6.7 per cent as spending increased across all major categories.

Public debt charges rose by $10.3 billion, or 35.9 per cent, largely due to higher interest rates.

Net actuarial losses fell by $1.9 billion, or 23.2 per cent, compared with the same period a year earlier.

I think the last real and serious attempt was on Ronald Regan? Last one I can remember at least. It does astound me (not that I'd actually want even this cockfuck to die) that it doesn't happen anymore.

Trump would not be the target of those people.

The context was not obvious, being someone who just saw a few wildly exaggerated headlines. Instead of news treating this like the nothingburger it is, they pitched it as if motion is passed and there is actually going to be a non confidence vote. So no wonder nobody could offer anything resembling an answer, because what I was asking didn't make any rational sense based on the actual true details here.

Any motion can be a non-confidence vote. Literally all anyone has to do is yell "non-confidence" on the floor.

It will be a surprise when the current gov't falls. It will be on some mundane piece of legislation.
