    I'm often curious how much of those high condo fees are soaked up by the management company just wringing the condo. Anytime I see self-managed condos they're still comfortably in the ~$300 range and then as soon as its an externally managed one they're 600+. Feels like companies just keep creeping up their fees heavily.

    My condo fees in newer buildings are around 80 cents / sqft

    Its all shit

    Condos in AB - worst investment of all time

    Yes I would prefer that you take an econ course, which I have recommended to many people, because yeah I don't have two weeks solid to explain to you the basics of macro and micro economics.

    You seem flummoxed by what's happening, you asked on a message board where multiple people have explained in layman's terms what is happening. You somehow expect a really long answer.

    How can you even say my answer is "simpleton", when you yourself have no literally no idea what is happening, so how can you even judge the correctness of the answers that are given to you?

    If it's not money printer go brrrr, then what?

    I think the main issue is that there is no answer anyone here can provide that you can reconcile with your value system that doesn't call into question your value system.

    Isn't that always to case until developer completely sold out the units? It's kind of a teaser rate to get you to buy.

    Yeah condo management fees are all over the place. Our building was small and admittedly I was pretty happy with Astoria based out of Airdrie. Their fees are appropriate and responses timely. I've heard some serious horror stories from the likes of Boardwalk and Emerald that make me wonder how the Boards haven't fired them years ago.

    Boards should be getting new contract quotes every couple years. CAON was our resident plumbing company for YEARS until I asked them to get quotes and check if that rate was still reasonable (I'm not in the industry, how would I know). Well turns out CAON was charging 2.5x of what others were willing to go to. Complacent boards who just check if the bills are being paid and if not, increase fees, are a rampant problem.

    Could be, our one building is managed by First Service Residential... a quick look at their stock ticker and they certainly aren't losing a fucking dime. Wish I'd bought their stock instead of this stupid ass condo

    The irony. My career and background revolve around economics. The more you know about something the more humble you should be about it. MMT as a theory has only been around a few decades. Heck the field of economics has been around for a century or two and its more art than science. There's a saying in the investment industry - nobody knows macro. Always more questions than answers.

    All these assumptions are just baseless. I don't vote for a particular party consistently. The whole point is to keep each other in check.
