Ram, no contest for me. Dodge looks better inside and out and the 5.7L is better than any ford eco engine imo.

Hated driving the fords at work, even the F150 Limited felt cheap compared to my 2016 1500 sport. After a long test drive of a raptor, id always go back to dodge for a truck.
Totally agree with this, if you don't like one brands interior, don't even consider buying it. Seems most people have strong opinions on this.

Yea I thought people were picky between BMW, Audi, and Mercedes interiors.

Until I started reading into trucks more. It’s nuts.

Brand loyalty in trucks is insane. And I'm the pretty much the same. I learned to drive in a Ford truck, and for my purchase this year, I didn't consider anything else.

I drive fairly aggressively normally. If I drove a RAM 1500 I would only need white sunglasses to be a complete douchebag

I always wonder how helpful these threads are lol These will happen on the f150 forum too and the amount of brand loyalty there is sickening but its the same across all forums too im sure.

It seems like I hear far more stories of catastrophic failures (engines) from Ford, specifically the Ecoboom than any other manufacturer.
Im definitely not trying to be that brand loyal guy but on the f150 forums there really arent that many engine failure stories that ive seen(there are a ton of cam phaser repairs tho lol). There might be the odd one here and there but for how many they sell and how much people like to complain there should be way more if that were the case.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

I don't think you can compare the 3.5EB to the 5.7 Hemi, at our elevation especially the 3.5EB crushes the Hemi, better mileage and way more power. It would be closer to compare it to the 2.7EB or the 5.0 from Ford.

The 3.5EB is generally reliable, the 2017+ is the Gen II of that motor so it gets some improvements over the previous version. The timing chain/cam phaser rattle should be covered under powertrain warranty and isn't as prevalent as it was on the older 3.5EB's. Spring for a 2018 if your budget allows for it as it gets the 10spd trans which is amazing.

I'm not brand loyal and went from a Sierra to the F150 and have been very happy, the torque is unreal for a half ton. I briefly considered a 2018 Ram 1500 until I drove one, other than the slightly nicer interior I felt it was an inferior truck in every other way starting with the archaic engine.

The most overlooked aspect in this thread so far is after sale support... dodge, absolutely piss poor... it’s not even a dealer thing. It’s top down FCA’s stance on service. Ford: zero issues, work is quick, no fight on warranty claims, just how it should be

After sale support is extremely important if you buy a Ford I agree.

when I went shopping for my last truck, i checked the big 3 again.

Best ride hands down was the chev, but the truck was so underpowered initially I thought something was wrong. Interior is comfy, but boring and underwhelming.
Nicest interior was the Ram. Nice touch points, decent enough ride, and their U-connect system is great. Truck had decent power and I really like the exterior styling as well. It is a pretty good truck.
Best power was hands down the F150. That 3.5L is leaps and bounds ahead of the other offerings. I have had 3 of them now, and zero issues. The 10 speed trans is great too. Interior is pretty plain, especially compared to the Ram, but way better than the Chev. The Sync setup is good, but the interface is meh. Ride can be a bit still, but is much better if you opt to NOT get the FX4 package. My last 3 Fords have only had basic maintenance done, However, it seems like every 4 months there is another recall for stupid piddly shit.

I wouldn't buy a Chev, but you can't really go wrong with either the Ram or the F-150 IMO. Both are great trucks, but, both excel in different areas so you have to be honest with yourself and decide which one better suits your needs. I was actually on the way down to pick up a new Ram when I went back to Ford one last time to make a deal and ended up getting it done at the 11th hour.

im surprised no one has talked about resale. the F150 kills the ram in resale

That in itself is worth it to go Ford.

IMO resale is impossible to compare because the average purchase price is unknown. the big 3 often discount around %20 off MSRP so using it as a comparison doesn't work. It's why Toyota 'wins' the resale game as they don't have the same discount structure.

I thought about it, but I don't know the market well enough so I didn't mention it. You are much more in the know in this area than I.

its as simple as finding out how much a similar line truck in a ram or ford is in 2017.

For example a 2017 3.5 EB screw 502A Lariat average price is around mid $40s right now and a similarly equipped CC 2017 Ram Sport is under $40k
Ford has employee pricing, Ram has 25% off so incentives even out IMO.
Average MSRP on both trucks are $70-75k depending on options before discounts.

Ram, but only in TRX trim.
F-150, but only in Raptor trim.
Silverado, but only with a LT4 and A10 swap.

Looking at getting a 2017/2018 Ram 1500 sport 5.7 V8 or a similar year F150 Lariat 3.5L ecoboost. I have driven both but really can't decide on which one to get.

Truck would be a daily and will be taken into the bush (off-roading/hunting) and some light towing (smaller camper/boat).

The interior of the ram I found is nicer than the ford (ford seems a bit dated) but the fuel economy from the ford would be better in the bush. Ford also felt more responsive with power.

Looking for opinions on which one you prefer and why to help me make my decision.
When I think of Ram 1500 owners, I picture a girl I saw driving one recently. Shorts and cowboy boots, has spent a lot of time in her life at the dinner table, pink hair, long fake fingernails, smoking darts, and a dog in the backseat that probably gets a steady diet of peanut butter. I don't know if that's the crowd you're into.

On the other hand, they're nice looking trucks.

cant wait till my truck shows up, sharing the van with my wife is starting to drive me nuts. Ordered a 2020 Lariat 502A, rainchecked employee pricing + staff deal, should be here any day now. Got rid of the raptor, just not for me.

The interior alone (this is top level trim) on the Dodge will win many people over.
