CPS has an extremely poor reputation in terms of work environment, not surprised that they have to pay such compensation.
That was just one example I've seen for city work. And I would put up with some crap for that kind of pay.

I'm skeptical because the teachers I know drive old exotics like Civics, Sunfires, and Outbacks instead of fully loaded lifted 4H/4A/4L Truks.
That explains why the school in front of my house has a Parking Lot full of Lexus and Infiniti’s

Oops, see not an Engrish teacher here haha. No but seriously we still have premiums, been like that for at least 10 years now. Subs especially, cause they can't even choose to opt out of the blue cross heath plan which they are REQUIRED to pay for regardless of whether or not they actually work.
Are you really arguing about 80 dollars a month?

They certainly do have a lot of jobs with compensation that's out of step with the work.

The CPS is a brutal workplace, I'm not sure that's enough pay. And woe to be if you're a woman working there.

Extraslow doesn't paint an exactly bleak picture though.
Agree it's not bleak for those who get a job, in energy or whatever industry. What's bleak is those who can't get a job.

Overall, anyone who's got full time work is pretty damned blessed, and should be thankful, and saving like crazy against the economic implosion that canada will expereince in the next decade.

Full time teachers only pay premiums for life insurance. No premiums for health, dental, or disability. Ask me how I know.
Oh, yeah, I was agreeing with you, if you are on a full time contract longer than 1 month you get coverage. But it only covers 70% and based on how I just got new personal health insurance as I am not currently employed with any board since my move to YEG; I figure that coverage only accounts to about 1000 dollars paid out per year. Manulife COVERme is like 84 bucks a month now and it covers almost exactly the same as what I had on a full time contract

It only covers $70/mo. For everything else there is a healthy health spending account.

Fancy neighbourhood! Parents not abiding by the no visitor parking rule? The most expensive vehicle in the parking lot of the school closest to me is a 5+ year old Audi. No other exotics.

Are you thinking that expensive cars are bought only by people that make a lot of money?

I am talking about exotics. What other explanation could there be?

That's still their income per year, regardless of how much they've actually worked.

A rigpig earning $200k in 9 months, while enjoying a 3 month shutdown, still makes $200k a year (except they get EI as well, while teachers don't)
Regardless of the occupation, you should normalize for the actual time working....annual pay is not all that informative in any number of cases.

    Maybe per hour could work?

    Maybe per hour could work?
    ya, that would make sense.

Although teachers often suggest that they work a "full year", but packed into 9.5 months, because they work more than 9-5. Teachers seem to forget that many successful people work more than 9-5.

    Maybe for a producer...

The worst I saw it was new grads getting 85-90k to start out of school in 2014.

Since that peak... who knows. Do new grads even get hired anymore?
There was one New Grad position I recently saw at Ovintiv, that was a first in probably 2 years. From what I've seen of people getting hired in G&G during 2017/2018, it was ~75-85K/yr with a christmas bonus at major E&Ps. People had internships and Master's degrees. Miraculously they're all still working. After I finished my MSc. in 2018, I had a mix of 4-month contracts to a year long, ranging from 63k-94k/yr, some a mix of being considered a student (the 94k was a student contract technically if you can believe it).

No way, is it that bad out there? My first gig out of school working in telecom was like $50k, and that was 20 years ago!!
I recently applied to Golder, and during the application, it asked about yearly salary expectations. Selection choices ranged from 45-50, 50-55, 55-60, 60+. Glassdoor suggested their pay for a Junior/Intermediate was more in-line with $55K, +/-. As I look at a lot of industries, it amazes me how many want a Bachelors's, 1-3 years of experience and <50K year.

If even if I say yes, I'll work for that (and I have), there are 200+ applicants (AT LEAST) you're competing with who likely are willing to work for the same peanuts. Internal references don't seem to make much of a difference these days.

Just gotta chin-up and keep networking and differentiating yourself where you can. Staying positive helps too.

My son's grade 1 teacher drove a shitbox echo to school... But the Camaro SS they drove at the car shows spoke volumes...

I wouldn't drive a nice car to work knowing what kids today are like.

I know many people who keep their lifestyles modest for optics reasons - or often have their fun stuff in Arizona or something. There is almost zero benefit to flexing anywhere, anytime...unless you are specifically in a business that rewards it.

have heard rumours of suppliers back in the good days that had to implement policies of leave your porsche at home when customers are visiting. I graduated in 2013 and have dreamt more of 711 compared to 911's

That's an exception. I have never seen a decent car at my kindergarten teacher's place.
